A year too late. Should have kept him at the time rather than choosing to tie our hands behind our backs and burdening us with Watters for years but the decision to do that means that we can't afford to sign anyone who isn't absolutely ready to do
That must be the only reason. If we were linked with, for example, Christian Doidge at Forest Green or Paul McCallum at Eastleigh, there'd be a right meltdown, even though both are younger and more prolific than Norwood.
I don't think it was a choice between Norwood and Watters. Both were here when Norwood requested a transfer iirc.
There's nothing wrong with giving Norwood credit, for the one season he had here. I'd say he did the job well, that was asked of him. But its gone now, and I doubt if he can even manage a full hour each game anymore, especially at Lg One level.
Obviously, that isn't what I meant. If Norwood is as good as some are making out, and is the key to us getting out of this division, why is he playing in the National League?
No idea when Norwood did that, if he actually did at all. There was only a few days between one joining and one leaving wasn't there?
Just checked, there was about 11 days between the two. Must admit I thought we signed Watters earlier in the summer. From memory, Collins said at the time Norwood had approached him a few days before about a move to Oldham. That was after we'd triggered a contract extension for Norwood too, so I wouldn't have thought it was one or the other.
Can we afford any striker that will be the key to getting us out of this division ? Norwood deserves credit for being a good cheap solid signing that owes us nothing.
Even if it's a loan, there will be players out there who will improve us, and within budget. Albeit a different type of striker, McAtee was definitely an upgrade last season. Norwood woudltn fit that category now. He definitely deserves some credit for the year he had here, though we don't owe him anything either. It's time we moved on though. He's not coming back, and we really can do better.
Could well have been the case that the decision to sign Watters and the promise of game time for him was the very reason that Norwood thought **** this. God knows but I know which striker I'd prefer to have had at the club last year
I agree that he won't be coming back but I wouldn't be against us signing another streetwise striker that helps to develop Jalo and maybe give Watters a boost. It will be an interesting week to see who we do get.
