Mansfield at home we were starting to get really on top of the game, then when the subs came on, the momentum was halted. Today the change at half time was strange as I don’t think Gent was playing too badly. I’m guessing it was tactical. Not the best starts to an Oakwell career. 25 minutes and getting hauled off and 45 minutes in the next one.
The problem is the squad at his disposal lacks quality. So how can he make any positive changes when we need fresh legs? The board are to blame yet again for piss poor recruitment over a period of time. Useless.
Tbh we weren't great all game.. We took the lead out of the blue. Our second all though a good finish was just a defensive blunder. Northampton looked a mid-table side.. and we looked no better. Just where we are at present i'm afraid.
They are making an impact... a negative one! P.s I'm not gunna keep on banging on about it though as he needs time. But he's a no nonsense talking man so be good to hear him take responsibility for it, especially today
He gives us natural worth and a decent delivery in to the box. Hopefully we will get some answers in the post match interviews.
Watching on Ifollow, I didn’t think those taken off were any less pixelated than the subs in all honesty.
I cannot comment too much on individuals because I could barely see them, never mind know who they were. I think we have to judge him once he has a full squad. At the moment he has no attacking options and he's having to partially introduce Pines, even though disturbing the defence is never a good idea. Phillips' goal came from an enforced change to their defence.
The substitutions lost us the game and there is no hiding from the fact. Taking watters and cotter off lost all our pace and hourihane should have controlled the game. Lofthouse looked good mind. Pines introduction just brought confusion in my opinion.
So the Scottish bloke didn’t make enough subs or early enough and this bloke makes too many subs too early….? As a manager you are within your rights to make subs, you’re also within your rights to expect those subs to come on and do well. The issue isn’t making subs, the issue is performance based by the replacements. I think it’s pretty obvious we lack quality and depth. That’s the issue. Until we sign better players this is going to happen. You can’t expect the same 11 to do 90 minutes a game for the season in the 5 sub era of the game.
