    Exactly how I see it

When I was younger I often thought Liam was a bit of a nob, and that Noel was the talent, but these days I'd always rather see Liam. The Definitely Maybe show was absolutely phenomenal

    Hope not.
    Had their day.
I was at their last gig at Wembley and was sorely disappointed.
    Times have moved on.

I’d completely forgotten that Oasis were supposed to be supporting them. Wouldn’t surprise me if the accident was a load of ********, as their opinion of themselves by that stage was such that they wouldn’t have been wanting to support anyone, unless the Beatles reformed. I came up from Brighton to that Huddersfield gig. We actually had tickets to see REM in Amsterdam or Rotterdam, can’t remember which, but it got cancelled after Bill Berry had his burst aneurysm. Trying to think who else was on that bill. Was it Echobelly and Terrorvision? Or maybe Belly? I remember getting into a row with a steward. I’m not particularly fond of The Beautiful South, apart from Old Red Eyes Is Back (what a song!), but I had one of their t-shirts, as it said Northern Scum on the front.

“Northern scum, eh? And where do you live then?”
    “Brighton”
“Well you shouldn’t come up here wearing something like that. Someone might get offended”
“Well you’re the only one mate. And anyway, I’m from Barnsley. It’s ironic, not meant to be taken literally”
“Well they shouldn’t have let you in wearing that. It might start a riot”
“Okay mate, I think the rest of the stadium gets the joke, but if it’s looking like starting a riot I’ll turn it inside out”

I’d seen Oasis for the first time the previous year in Brighton and they were ace. Probably my favourite of their gigs, as the others I saw were all in enormodomes and at Knebworth. Knebworth was a great day though, as my mate’s sister was their PR manager or something, so we were on the Creation guest list. Free booze all day, a great view in front of the stage, and surrounded by footballers (Stuart Pearce offered me his place in the England team!), musicians and, ahem, glamour models. And my favourite band at the time, The Charlatans, doing a fantastic and very emotional set, a week or two after Rob Collins had been killed, with Martin Duffy from Felt filling in on the organ.

They supported them at another concert in Ireland

Torn on this, must have seen oasis 40 times. Half phenomenal half terrible. Seemed to alternate nightly! The early gigs were off the scale to be fair, 40 mins hot, fast, loud rock and roll, exactly as it should be, when it got a bit overblown I lost a bit of interest

I’ll probably go and then wonder why.

What a line up compared to these days. Some bands on the lesser stages that have done very well in the years since.

This will be the biggest gate of all time. No individual or band would come close, this will break all records. The prices of seeing someone live will never be the same again! The ticket prices can be what they want, we will all pay it.

    I can’t wait for Tuesday, :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I find music snobbery one of the strangest things.

The amount of times I’ve heard nonsense like ‘they’ve copied the Beatles’, ‘they’re stone roses wannabe’s’. I’ve even heard them slated for copying Slade.

Everyone you’ve ever liked or listened to is heavily influenced by many different artists. It’s bizarre that so many hold it against Oasis.

In recent times I’ve seen Sam Fender & he’s influenced by Bruce Springsteen, the Reyton’s who are influenced by the Arctic Monkeys, Blossoms who are influenced by Oasis. I couldn’t care less. Why does anyone care?

I can’t understand why people can’t just say not my thing rather than try to look down on the music as if it’s beneath you.

Knebworth was the tipping point for me. Up to then almost everything they did was ace, but after Knebworth, which is what, 28 years ago, I’ve liked 3 songs - Stay Young (which should have been the A-side, rather than the dreary D’you Know What I Mean), The Hindu Times and The Importance of Being Idle (I like the video for that one too, even though it was a bit like the Kinks’ video to Dead End Street, which the song sounds a bit like too). Apart from those three tracks, the first High Flying Birds album was okay, but I find all the rest quite forgettable.

It was inevitable there’d be a comeback though. It was either gonna be when Noel needed the money or needed his ego massaging a bit. I’ll stick to my memories of the gigs from when they were good. I’m not one for going and watching bands who’ve reformed anyway, especially when it’s just a cash in tour, with no new album…although I’d have made an exception for Frankie Goes To Hollywood, but I have it on good authority that this will never happen!

Saw them 3 or 4 times back in the day, and they got progressively worse. First time was at Sheffield Arena between Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory. Pulp unannounced support act. Probably one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Knebworth was a great day out as well. By the time Be Here Now came around the show I saw was utterly shambolic. Liam was twatted and stumbled off halfway through leaving Noel to finish it. Never had any desire to see them again after that, or even bother listening to their new material. Can't see me bothering with any of the Wembley gigs, though might change my mind nearer the time if there are any spare tickets floating round for well under face value. But in general I'm happy to enjoy the memories. Now, if REM decided to tour again - not that they would I don't think - that's something I'd happily pay the asking price for without even thinking about.

Meh, personally I find them way over rated.
It was always going to happen them getting back together, people have fallen hook line & sinker, ticket prices will be ridiculous & folk will pay it.

Oasis are iconic. The demand for tickets will be off the scale. There’s a whole generation desperate to see them. It’s gunna be mega.

i look largely agree mate although i did do all the stone roses reunion gigs even though I knew it was just a pension pot exercise!

It’s probably for another thread but here’s who I’d sell a kidney to pay for a reformation

    New Fast Automatic Daffodils
    Chumbawamba (full electric version)
Carter (again, even though they have reformed and retired already)

This was one of the shǐte ones, wish id gone and seen muse.

Shack were truly amazing at this one, I enjoyed elbow in the carling tent and queens of the Stone Age were just coming and were upgraded to the second stage.

rage absolutely killed it mid afternoon for some reason not headlining

Why do you think people have ‘fallen hook line & sinker’ as if they’re been conned?

Everyone expected this at some stage didn’t they?

At the time they split Liam was still off his head on drugs every night whilst Noel was sick of it. 15 years on & Liam’s getting through headline tours of his own without pulling out of dates & turning up in a state so it makes sense.

Of course they’ll get paid well but that’s hardly an issue. Both are still huge acts in their own right & would’ve made fortunes more if they stayed together for the past 15 years.

Nobody's forcing anyone to buy tickets. If the shows are as good as Oasis can be, then they'll be amazing. Pulp's reunion shows last year were off the scale awesome. Oasis may or may not be to that level. Hopefully they will be.
