Barnsley will do what they always do every transfer window. We will bring in a young player, put him in the under twenty ones, then loan him out. We'll next bring in a so called promising prospect, probably from the Premier league. Why don't this board spend a bit of money like any other league one club will do. We're becoming a laughing stock, some targets we're after will no doubt sign for lower league clubs because as always, we won't spend anything. I've been supporting the Reds for over Fifty Seven Years now, but sadly nothing ever changes. I hope I'm proven wrong for once and hope we do sign a few recognised players. I can't see this happening however, but for once would love to be proven wrong.
Some of our worst signings have been well known with reputation, Mido, Rankin, Sheron, Frimpong, Warhurst, Burton, Goodman, yet the ones plucked out of Nowhere Hourihane, Mawson, Hammill and the youth players that cost us next nothing Eaden, Watson, Moses, Liddell, Bullock, Stones, Holgate, Hirst, Tiler have all delivered far greater than any big transfer fee signing
Blackpool. Spent nothing. Cambridge. Spent nothing. Crawley. Spent nothing. Exeter. Spent nothing. Leyton Orient. Spent nothing. Northampton. Spent nothing. Reading. Spent nothing. Rotherham. Spent nothing. Shrewsbury. Spent nothing. Wigan. Spent nothing. Wycombe. Spent nothing. That's pretty much half the division spent nothing. Recruited players, yes, but paid nothing. We've recruited 7(?) I think spending approx 1/4 of a million on Gent. That's more than Lincoln and Stevenage and about the same as Mansfield. We aren't an outlier in terms of spending in any way for the division we're in. Birmingham are of course, but even Wrexham haven't splashed the cash yet.
Maybe what the poster should have said was: Why haven’t we brought any recognised strikers in, surely that is what we all want….. I am still living in hope that we will but longer it goes on less I think its likely.
We've needed a striker since Cole made it clear he wouldn't sign a new contract the board knew months ago, Its probably the most important position in the team the position clubs spend the most on. They said for about the third season in a row our business will be done early and for the third season in a row the most important part of the rebuilding hasn't happened as we enter the last week of the window. I expect some 18 year old nobodies ever heard off from a lower end premier league team will be brought in and we'll be spun the story that he's the one we've been waiting for. Same **** different window.
I don't think Sheron deserves to be anywhere near that list. I'd kill for a Mike Sheron in our squad now.
He was always one of my favourite players. We'd have stayed up in 2001/2 if Parkin hadn't started benching him and bringing in s h ite loan players. Should have stuck with him and Dyer and made more use of Gorre.
I don't think he was bad, certainly looking back at his time here. I do think we all expected him to be better than he was at the time though, he came as a bit of a marquee signing and didn't really hit the heights he had elsewhere (particularly Stoke and QPR).
