The harsh reality of football should tell you this isn’t true. If Mansfield and Barnsley have both offered him the same contract he’ll always pick Barnsley. Bigger stadium. More fans. Better facilities. And probably the biggest lure of all he’s more likely to get to the championship with us than Mansfield. Fans love to believe players have some sentiment to the club but they don’t. They always want to play at the highest level with the best clubs. Reality of it is we’re a better club than Mansfield. My worry would be that a better club than us comes in for him before his contract is signed assuming Mansfield want it done after the game and not before.

I genuinely don't get why you'd get Keilor Dunn and keep Phillips. Surely you can only play one of them?
Not necessarily. You could play a three in the middle with Connell sitting centrally with DKD and Phillips on the right and left Infront of him.. would make us very, very attack-minded, we'd just be vulnerable to a quick counter, which we have been anyway in recent times.
Why do we want him? He’s hardly set the world alight for Mansfield in league one. He wasn’t that great in the game against us and although I’ve not watched every Mansfield game so far this season, he’s not scored or created an assist so far. He looks league 2, average lower end league one at best. He’s no better than we’ve already have and to pay circa 750K for the privilege, there must be better options out there.
If we have £700k going, I would rather spend it trying to get Joe Taylor on a permanent from Luton Town. He is definitely the higher priority type of forward we need first of all, rather than a goalscoring midfielder who has only played successfully at League Two level so far. I would not be that fussed if we miss DKD, but land Joe Taylor. Priorities.
Joe Taylor will be on a lot higher salary at Luton than DKD at Mansfield. For that reason alone I would doubt we'd have a chance of getting Taylor permanently.

Maybe because our current best option.. attacking left-side is Lofthouse, a right back.. Let the manager manage.. if he comes judge him at the end of the season not the beginning
