As per the Chronicle: https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/a...line-day-deals-after-edvardsen-disappointment - increased bid submitted for DKD - in advanced talks with players who’s names aren’t public - interest in Faal cooled last week - Ennis a target if Stoke get a replacement in - Taylor unlikely due to other interest and could stay at Luton - We had an option to make the Edvardsen deal permanent
This is why I'm not worried about us getting deals done. The names we're publicly linked with are rarely our main targets, and I'd imagine this is the case now barring DKD.
Left it way too late for DKD now. No way Mansfield accept anything now unless it's a huge bid over asking price. They don't have any chance of replacing him. Clearly not desperate to sell him either.
Not getting DKD today won't be a disaster, we're covered in that area of the pitch. Worst case scenario is we go back in in January with 500K and take him then. It's out-and-out strikers we're crying out for.
I'm not convinced by that. I've read a bit on their forum, and they've a few players who their fans reckon could fill that role. Ideally they'd like to replace him, and probably have replacements lined up. I guess it's whether they're prepared to take a good offer for him now, knowing they'll not get that in January or next summer.
Like DC's interviews. Good to have a guy with a GSOH. "I'm capable of taping my phone to my face on the way to Crawley". Must have been ultra frustrating for our guys for the Swede to turn us down. Recruitment is not easy. If we can't get anyone over the line it won't be for the want of trying. I'm taking my lead from the managers comments on the basis that if there was ever anyone who could utter complete bullsh1t, it's not him.
Doesn't matter what the fans think though, it is what Clough thinks. DKD has been playing in all the league games and is one of their key players. Had all window to get it sorted if we wanted him, he has been available given his contract situation and yet here we are on deadline day still putting in bids that by Doug's words may not be accepted. Personally think we have left it way too late. Hope I am proved wrong as I think he would be a great signing, but I can't see it coming off this late in window now.
I disagree regards DKD I think he’ll be sold today. He has 1 year left on his deal and £750k is a lot of money to a club like Mansfield. I think they’ve left it to deadline day to sell him simply to see what the highest bid they can get is.
And nobody bid the reported 2 million for styles. But we still sold. If, however we have bid 700k and the asking price is 750k. I'd be a bit deflated haggling over 50k. Should they move the goalposts above that, then I'd happily accept us telling them to bugger off. Charley Adam springs to mind... 450/500k......
But we did not sell Styles on deadline day. Styles also was desperate to leave and would not play. DKD is being a professional and still playing every week. Very different situations.
