Definitely had text on it, they’ve jumped the gun waiting for the club to drag it out close to the hour.
Said he’d completed move, a contract was offered (biggest in the clubs history) but his head was turned
Keillor-Dunn makes Barnsley switch "Mansfield Town can confirm that Davis Keillor-Dunn has joined Barnsley for an undisclosed fee. The attacker scored 29 goals in 75 appearances, since joining the club in January 2023. On the move, manager Nigel Clough said: “Barnsley eventually got to a bid that was acceptable to the club. “He [Davis Keillor-Dunn] has made no secret of his desire to leave us for the last few weeks and you reach the stage where you think it’s best for all parties if that happens. “We offered him a new deal and said: ‘will you discuss a new deal?’ and offered to make him probably the highest paid player in the club’s history, but he didn’t want to sit down and discuss it." “His mind is made up. He’s had his head turned by Barnsley and I think as staff and as a squad, when that’s the situation then it is best for the player to move on. “He’s been fantastic for us. We took him out of Burton – he wasn’t really playing. “His goals and assists were magnificent for us, but we move on. That’s football and we move on with trying to find a replacement and find the next one. “If we can sign a few more players for twenty-five thousand pounds and sell them for [almost] a club record fee, then that’s good business. “We will miss him on the pitch, no doubt at all, but already the uncertainty spreads within the squad and we can’t afford any of that in the next eight months.” The club places on record its thanks to Davis for his efforts during his time at the club." Note: Mansfield record transfer sale is £675,000 received for Lee Peacock (source) though wiki states £500,000.
Link works again. Near club record fee. If you scroll to the bottom of this link their record fee is 655k for Colin Calderwood so we've probably agreed on 600k. https://www.stagsnet.net/vintage/records/records01.html
Clough said "sell them for [almost] a club record fee". A quick search shows their record to be £650k. Surely we've paid more than that after all the wrangling?
