Whilst I understand fully what you're trying to do in this debate, i'm afraid you are the one who's mistaken here, and in these dangerous times its very important to have the facts straight. Catchijg up and reading about this weekend has been utterly sickening. We need to be arguing the case using clear facts if we're going to quell the sort of lunacy we've seen over the weekend. Asylum seekers to the UK are - quite rightly - entitled to receive Asylum Support benefit, which includes entitlement to state provided housing plus the princely sum of £49.18 per person per week, pre-loaded onto a debit card. Additional benefits are available for young mothers and pregnant women, and state schooling is also available alongside eligibility for free school meals if appropriate. https://www.gov.uk/asylum-support/what-youll-get Not exactly a life of luxury.
They get very little mate, barely enough to live on. Just process their claims to asylum and let them work to support themselves in the meantime. No more Bibby Stockhomes, no more Holiday Inns. Tim Martin would get the staff he needs for his Wetherspoons pubs, problem solved.
Well yeah. But that kind of goes without saying. Provide better aid and support to struggling and wartorn countries. The classic right wing cycle - cut foreign aid - complain about all the refugees - repeat
I've said this countless times' whilst i agree illegal immigration is a problem that needs addressing' the truth is if we hadn't turned their homes and cities into piles of rubble killing tens of thousands of innocent civilians they may not have needed to migrate anywhere' along with America we've bombed the middle east with complete impunity for decades ' make no mistake we've played a major role in whats happening now.
I would suggest that the ability to speak or at least understand English & already having family here is the real reason people risk everything to get here, my brother lives in Germany & they get far more from the government there to nullify the benefit argument.
750,000 immigrants a year isn’t sustainable. Nor is a lack of control over who comes and who we accept. There’s already a housing crisis in the UK, with many finding a home unaffordable either to buy or to rent. We won’t build an additional 375,000 homes a year, and nor would we want to live in the country that would imply.
So does your point about Albania trump all i've put in my post?' The whole Albania thing is a problem that needs addressing but it doesn't exonerate us from the part we 've played in the destruction of the middle east.
Just short of 30k. The rest is controlled and provides support to god knows how many industries in the UK, I would assume mainly the health care system
Saw the other day 7k have come in on small boats since the new Government came in. The uncontrolled immigration cost the country 6billion a year it needs sorting ASAP. Especially when we can take the winter fuel off pensioners who have paid into the system. And I'm not anti immigration but it needs controlling. Do I think this government will? No there more interested in banning outdoor smoking.
Not at all it just puts into some perspective the amount entering via boats. Do I have any faith in them to get to grips with it? No.
And just out of interest, how many of those asylum seekers are successful? It also costs the NHS £2.5 billion a year for smokers, so I can’t get too worried about a smoking ban outside pubs.
Obesity cost the nhs over 6billion a year so maybe we should ban fast food, sugary drinks etc? As a non smoker I'm not concerned if someone's smoking outdoors it will do more harm to the pub industry than anything.
