Didn't we sign him (on loan at first), near the same time as signing David Currie again ?. It was season '91, so there were no August and January transfer windows then of course.
Still only £345k in today's money. He could do the lot. There's no way we'd have kept him in today's game, he'd have been gone in a season. Class player.
Blossomed late but highly thought of. There is only one King though. I feel extremely fortunate to have been around at the time.
Err ok yeah, but that's not quite what I was asking lol. I know he was on loan initially, that's why I only put it in brackets, in that question which was about Currie.
My favourite player and the best captain the Reds have had. What we’d have given for a player like him in recent years.
And didn't mad Mel play him as a defensive midfielder at first? Think he only got something like 4 goals in his first season
Yeah it was early in season '91 Wuzza kid lol. And I know Currie made his second debut for us then, against Ipswich, again!. And I think Redders was signed at that time, and was his debut then, or against Leicester later that week ?.
This is the game Im on about, later that week against Leicester. Did Redders make his debut then, and hey he did score a penalty btw!. And also, Dave Copping was awful as a commentator in those days!!.
Doesn't every person of a certain age have his own opinion? Glavin was an obvious crowd favourite in the 80s but my dad said Johnny Kelly and Tommy Taylor gave more to the team even though he saw Glavin and Redfearn in their prime. Danny Blanchflower must also have been a crowd favourite in his day. Personally speaking, I think Glavin, Redfearn and Hignett were all match winners of equal ability.
Is that right @Acido Tyke ? The Ipswich game was on 14/09, I reckon they both played in a 1-1 draw away at Derby the previous week? Happy to be corrected.....
