    Hi folks

In trying to be more organised with holidays I’ve booked flights to Bordeaux for next summer holidays as we wanted to go to France.

I know there are plenty of nice areas around there, but I’m wondering if anyone can recommend a particular area they’ve been to, or even a particular town or village.

Looking for somewhere within a moderate drive of Bordeaux, say an hour, within half an hour of nice beaches (the nearer the better but wary of price). Just somewhere pleasant, with a nice vibe, some stuff to do etc. 3 kids between 5-9 coming.

Will end up with a Gite/AirBnB type place but need to hone down on areas first.

    Cheers!

I haven’t been to that area sadly but our kids talk fondly of the times at those ages whet we were on Eurocamps in France. We usually hired one of the bigger holiday homes with a deck whether it was a chalet or static caravan - much nicer than static caravans on holiday sites in this country.
Absolutely tons to do on those sites. They all have brilliant waterparks. https://www.eurocamp.co.uk/

Another vote from me for Lacanau. We stayed in a caravan yards from the beach but it’s some years ago so it’s probably more developed by now. The site was called Lacanau Ocean

But not so organised as to decide where to go before booking your flights, it seems.

Sorry, can't help you with Bordeaux. Just here to be an arse, really.

Haha, didn’t want to over research only to find I couldn’t get the cheap(ish) flights! Flights first, accommodation second :D

As has been said it’s a lovely coast, I’ve stayed at Moliets , decent golf course . Bordeaux’s worth a look , last went to see Rival Sons there and had a great weekend

I rode to northern Spain in June and went across the estuary ferry at Royan then down through the Parc Naturel Regional Medoc before staying the night in Arcachon which is really nice and famous for oysters and reminded me of Le Touquet on the north coast as it's quite an up market tourist seaside resort.

It's a couple of hours drive north, but Ille de Re is nice. Hire a bike to look around. Breakfast by the side of the harbour at St Martin.

    Arcachon, just south of Bordeaux.

All around there is lovely, classic beaches backing onto pine forests, lagoons and lakes.
