https://www.blackpoolfc.co.uk/news/2024/september/03/steve-bruce-appointed-as-head-coach/ That's a bonus for the rest of us.... Huddersfield fans will be laughing. When he managed them they nearly ended up bust with him spending the Barry Rubery money on garbage like Kwami Houdouto.
Don't rate him at all, but the one thing he will have is great contacts and a huge network, possibly with plenty of favours. If they're doing alright they might benefit in Jan for a push into playoffs, if not, they might give him a nice wedge for the summer transfer window and go for it next year. Wouldn't want him anywhere near us though.
10 and 20 years ago, completely different now, not done anything of note in years and lets not pretend he didn't have brilliant squads either. Be interesting to see how he does here, with them not being particularly high up on the promotion odds. My nan would be able to get a couple of teams promoted from this league, but him going there should be a decent challenge.
No I wouldn't go that far either Hooky kid lol. Remember West Brom sacked Val when they were going for the Play offs, and they replaced him with broken nosed Brucie lol!!. And they ended up in relegation trouble, and he just laughed his way to the bank.
Did he ever get a team promoted that hadnt come down and with access to "parachute payments"? Is Scott Parker going to be the new Steve Bruce?
No idea and can’t be bothered to look. Means nothing even if he has. There’s more teams that come down from the Prem and don’t return for a very long time. It’s like stats in a game……the only one that matters is the one at the top of the page……the result. Too many ppl think older managers can’t do it anymore yet when things go wrong at Oakwell we clamour for Warnock or McCarthy.
2019 he took the Newcastle job and ppl had him as “done” or a “has been”. He did fantastic imo under the circumstances that Mike Ashley put that club under whilst getting a manager of the month award.
You’ve got to be kidding. He was absolutely abysmal as Newcastle manager. He took over from Rafa Benitez & was given a huge transfer kitty in comparison to what Rafa did & signed Joelinton, Almiron & St. Maximin. He couldn’t get a tune out of them & spent a couple of years trying to play Joelinton as a lone striker. He wouldn’t play Fabian Schar ahead of players like Paul Dummett. The same Schar that looked a top 4 defender under Benitez & has under Howe. They were bottom of the league & headed to the championship when Howe took over in November. Even before they signed anyone in January Howe had improved things drastically & started getting a tune out of players Bruce couldn’t do anything with.
If money is the key differentiator in football, and it always has been, I would argue that parachute payments are extremely significant.
Must admit, I was very surprised when I saw this. Thought he’d be done with management now or at least working in some obscure country. If he fails at Blackpool, that could well become true.
Anyone who doesn’t think Newcastle were on a downward spiral no matter who was in charge needs to think again. He had no money and my opinion is that he did a cracking job given what he and the club were up against. Bring on the money for Eddie Howe to spend tho eh?
Bruce spent loads of money compared to what Rafa got. Them three players I mentioned were for huge fees at the time. They had spent no money under the past few managers but Bruce did get some money to spend. Ashley didn’t want a repeat of the relegation to put off new buyers so he backed Bruce but Bruce couldn’t get a tune out of the new signings.
