I still don't think Mdg had an awful season. He was voted 3rd best player for us - he was excellent first half, dropped off second but then again who didn't really! I think Phillips was the only one who actually improved second half of season

I’m not sure they’ve weakened the defence. Who’ve they let go? Jordan was out of contract, and Cadden was about as much of a defender as Clint Marcelle. He was a converted winger playing wing back.

Adding Roberts plus the return of Pines were always going to be obvious improvements to what was left at the back end of last season.

There wasn’t much protection for that back line last season, compared to the Duff year in my opinion. I think with Craig and Kelechi added in there, plus Connell and Russell able to do a job deeper, we ought to be better defensively further up, if you know what I mean.

What I will say with certainty is, there’s more scope to alter setups and systems this season. We look to have a more flexible squad and a coach who feels comfortable playing in a number of shapes.

This weekend will be a good test. Can we get that first home win in the league? Hopefully Max and Sam are okay and we’ve a bench full of options.

I find it really hard to believe that our strategy on bringing in the two players we wanted from day 1 was to wait until 11pm of the last day.

I'm guessing we've ended up paying them both more than we wanted to because we had to.

Imagine a scenario where you are out of work, but your skills are in high demand. You know that in the next 4 weeks you are going to be even more desirable to prospective employers and your remuneration could increase significantly.
Do you a) take the first option out in the table
    B) wait until you have assessed all options and made sure you’re taking the right job?

It's a fair point on Humphreys - but not on the Davis kid imho.

Attack is the best way to defend.
