Please forgive this plug! I've always been interested in the history of the club and think its heritage is important. Given that, a couple of years ago I started researching and have collated c.3,000 facts/events/happenings covering each day of the year in the history of the club and am adding to this all the time as I find out more stuff from the past and capture new things that have just happened. I'm keen to share these with others who may be interested. I've occasionally posted on here about some of these events but don't do it every day as I don't want to spam the board. I post a couple of times every day on X / Twitter though on this account: https://x.com/BarnsleyOn15602 and would appreciate any follows if anyone is on X. A couple of people have told me they're not and so I've now also started a Facebook page (not a group) and everything is also posted on there. You'll find it at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61565298389159 If it's of interest then I'd obviously appreciate any follows.
This is brilliant work WT. I love reading facts like these about our history. I'll have a proper look later and certainly will be following. I'm not on twitter though.
I think it's terrible that there isn't some type of museum at the club, there's been talking over the years but nothings ever come of it.
I agree and I know that Official Club Historian David Wood has been trying to influence the club to do something. Maybe something to try to get included in a future new West Stand?
Not on either unfortunately but no doubt it’s a fantastic piece of dedication and I assume great to read. If you ever get a website or blog or anything as such, make sure to drop a link.
Arthur Bower, (RIP), was one of my school friends' Dad. A lot of stuff was passed over when he died. Glad someone has picked up the baton. Following the page on FB, thanks.
It’s a great page really well put together and informative. Thanks for doing it. Definitely one of my first checks when I look on SM
Followed. Could I be cheeky and ask what, if anything, interesting has happened on my birthday (1st Feb) in 1976 or any other year?
No problem @jptykes. I don't currently have anything specifically for 1976 but here's a teaser for 1913. I'll expand on Feb 1st but ....that was the day Blackburn Rovers beat Barnsley 3-2 in the second round of the FA Cup at Oakwell and knocked the holders out, bringing a 14 game unbeaten run in the competition to an end. I'll look specifically for 1976 too.
Already been following your account on Twitter, mate. It's a brilliant page and well done to you for the fantastic work you've put and continue to put into it - I love stuff like this about the club, quizzes etc too. Keep up the great work & thankyou !
