It is a tricky one isn't it? Chester wasn't even the original singer. I feel that in situations like this a band should be able to continue. Alice in Chains have done alright...
Yeah, I definitely get it - I guess I'd just be more likely to check them out if they made a new band! If you're doing new material then sure - loads of groups I like have chopped and changed members over the years. I do find it very weird when they do mostly old songs though, and I'm pretty sure that's what I'm going to be seeing from these.
I like the new song and watched the livestream where I thought Emily sounded good. I’m still not fully sure we needed this though.
Probably not but the band deserve to continue IMO and I believe Chester would have been happy with this. They built their sound together and shouldnt have to stop or restart as another name.
To be fair it’s probably what the band needed, they were actually around before Chester, & it’s not a replacement, it’s a new chapter, with a new version of his songs performed live, but with brand new songs as well. I think it’s great they are carrying on & the fans still get to hear those songs in a live setting.
Oh yeah I’m not advocating for them to have become a “new” band. I think I just always assumed if they came back, it would be for tours with a touring singer in place. Kind of like what Queen did with Adam Lambert. I’m impressed with what I’ve seen and heard from Emily though so at least they’ve made a good choice with that.
Yeah I know he joined the band slightly later but, to me anyways, he has been the sound and image of the band since they were known. As I said above, I think Emily is a good choice and I’ll definitely listen to the album when it comes out.
Great new song, can’t wait for them to tour, but insulting to the rest of the band to say they had to pack it in after Chester’s tragic death imho.
Some of the comments on social media from their "fans" are horrible, and on her insta page there's some pretty bad trolling. Despair with the state of the world at times.
The 'fans' at the concert weren't much better either. All camera phones and stillness. Not a mosh pit in sight.
Sign of the times unfortunately. Hopefully organisers can come up with a way to encourage no phones at events. I know theres talk of bags with magnetic locks or something, think Anderson Pack do something similar.
