I reckon we’ll end up blowing all comers away. We became invincible for the last few games of the Johnson/Hecky season and I believe we’re on that trajectory already.
My opinion is this squad wouldn't stand a chance against 2016 squad. The 2019 squad was scary at Oakwell, but if the current 11 could somehow play them away then they may stand a chance!
Me too. It's about us no one else. So what If Birmingham spent a fortune. They've bought crap for years.
15 goal contributions for Kane last season, 10 goals 5 assists. I don’t think any one player was guilty of slowing us down. Defence was porous, Connell missed the start of the season, Cole’s goals dried up and we were terrible at home for the most part. It was just an uninspiring season considering we reached the playoffs.
People did complain about the speed of our attacking play due to Kane though. I could trawl through and supply a link.
The thing with that though is that it was obviously done to protect the side due to the lack of pace in it & how vulnerable we looked when it became stretched. Kane gave an interview where he said it was a team tactic to slow the pace down& to retain possession more yet if you read this place you would think he had suddenly decided over the summer to not take as many risks with his passing & that it was nothing to do with losing a lot of pace out of the side & having Russell, De Gevigney & McCart instead of Connell, Thomas & Kitching.
I don’t need to see a link. I know people didn’t like Kane and would gladly make him a scapegoat. That’s their opinion, doesn’t necessarily prove anything. Just look at the differing views of Cozzys performance yesterday.
Hope so. More pressure on the likes of Huddersfield, Birmingham and Wrexham when we play them. Be amazing to see a league winning team.
Our first test and chance to make a ‘statement of intent’ will prob be against Stockport. Yeah I know it’s not Birmingham, but they’ve started well and deserve their current lofty status. Decent gate, plenty of away fans and people will have been drinking all day, so should be a great atmosphere.
I'd argue overall this is better as we have a lot of depth. Stendel side was overall a better starting 11 for sure but the options on the bench weren't near what we have now.
Depth doesn't always mean quality though. The 2019 starting squad was much better - defence in particular was up there with some of the best I've seen at this level - look at Pinnock and what he has gone onto achieve.
Some promising signs, thought we were terrific for 25 minutes yesterday, and then found a way to win in the second half. Could have lost on another day though if the O'Keeffe blunder had cost a goal as it should. As others have said, we haven't played any sides expected to do overly well yet (Bristol Rovers probably the most rated). I'll reserve judgment until we've played a few of Millers (yes I know a bad start but they'll improve), Hudds, Wrexham, Brum, Stockport, Charlton etc.
