For balance, both Labour and conservative governments have done very well from the miners pension scheme!
What makes you think the Tories are better to the point where you're writing this government off after 2 months in power?
the problem is more people are getting dragged to the right - look at the tax code freeze and the amount of Higher rate taxpayers compared to before, house price increases, pensions freedom. if I make sacrifices by running my own business, working longer hours , paying into pensions, investing in property and being prudent financially as opposed to constantly living for today and jizzing my money up against a wall , then why should those who can’t be ar5ed gain? The ones who are mega rich will simply disappear from the UK - meaning the new middle England has a big fat X on its back
Calling the needy "those who can't be arsed" is pretty disgusting. But yeah, let's send people to the food bank because heaven forbid some multimillionaire might not be able to afford his 3rd helicopter.
Let’s get something clear - some people aren’t as ‘needy’ as you think . I volunteer at a food bank and you get junkies and folk coming round who then sell the produce on. There are a helluva lot of lazy dole wallows in this country. Why should it always fall on those who’ve done well to prop up those with a crap attitude? The top 10% of earners in England generate 60% of the tax revenue - it’s the public sector gold plated pension scheme and sick pay, banks capital adequacy returns from government and dole wallows you need to look at I’m afraid. Kier Starmer is hardly on the breadline is he - is he giving some of his wealth to the cause?
Along with eye watering drink prices because landlords think they're owed it after covid unfortunately our wages haven't gone up at anywhere near the same rate. Unless you're a ******* train driver.
I think the means test is designed to establish those who need it. I hear some pensioners living abroad are even claiming it. So in that way it makes sense. However the objective doesn’t make sense. It will raise about 1bn to fill a 20bn hole. Then there will and has already been an increase in pension credit claims which some news agencies have said are now double. This then erodes the 1bn further. So the reasoning that this needs to fill the hole doesn’t stack up. There would need to be 30 other similar initiatives to do so. Now if we stop funding foreign climate aid, like to China, recoup the fraud through Covid, windfall tax energy orgs…. We might get this sorted easier. I think gov manifestos should carry more accountability and legal obligation. There should be more public input to adding new national impact topics. The biggest issue here for me is this topic wasn’t in the labour manifesto but has been fast tracked high up the priority list due to the hole in the budget. Labour have made massive progress this last two months. For example they have gone from being seen as ‘for the people’ to demonstrating they are ‘against the people’ in some voters eyes.locking up tweeters while at the same time releasing sex offenders won’t help.
You still don't see they're two cheeks of the same @rse do you. Starmers job amongst others things is to rid the 'middle class' of there money.. by middle class he means ANYONE with savings.. A lot of you lot blindly voted for him.. you will reap what you sow.. When he says change.. you can get ready. This country will be unrecognisable by the time he's done with.. And all you lot that were clapping your hands at a labour victory will be wanting to move abroad.. After finally realising what a 5'hit tip we have allowed to happen..
I guess it’s a tough decision to go against the populist view but when it’s the right decision etc etc
State pensions to rise by £460 in April due to the average wage increase figures just published. Labour have promised to guarantee the triple lock rises for the lifetime of this parliament.
It seems to work ok in almost every other democracy in the world. Simple question, why should a vote in one seat be worthless while one in another seat could decide the government?
As i've mentioned before, the likely delay in any new government announcing a raft of new tax rules/changes etc is that it would give them time to make adjustments to their own assets, so that they dont potentially fall foul of them - otherwise they could just announce them when they're at their most popular - ie within weeks of the election (All allegedly). This is why I think it would be useful for the tax paying public - ie us, that pays their wages - to have full transparency/disclosure of what assets they own and where they are and how they are held pre-election, and a full disclosure of where they are every x months (ie 3 months) - if someone shovels something away to not fall foul of a ruling/tax law etc, then it speaks volumes of there thoughts about the reasonability of it, but their expectation is for everyone to just suck it up and crack on - which unless you leave the country is your only option! Would it be worth having full disclosure of the public purse to top / senior business people in the UK and top accountants in the UK whereby the public are represented and the MPs accountable (I dont know if this happens now in some watered down, turkeys voting for christmas way) for spending? - this way we dont have to hear about the state of finances if a new party gets in office - lets be right, the 'blackhole' has been partly created by this government by caving in to unions easily and with no strings attached (For balance I think the conservatives just procrastinated knowing they were unlikely to get back in) - the more people hear about it, the more people will believe it - it's similar to the number of covid deaths reporting - the statistics were skewed and unless you took the time to dig deeper, then a proportion of the public will believe what they hear With the pension fuel allowance debate, the other side of the argument is that those who will no longer be eligible for it have likely paid more than their fair share of tax over the years and should be looked after - a good start would be increasing the tax code for pensioners who have paid their dues
I've got a feeling that Kier Starmer didn't delay announcing cuts to winter fuel allowances in order for him to get his personal wealth low enough to claim pension credit.
Hopefully hundreds years. You saw the mess the Tories made of the country and how their cuts to viral services destroyed your mental health and left you with no support. We need labour to try to repair that because the Tories certainly won't and the others only care about stopping foreigners coming here and encouraging people to set them on fire.
