Has anyone been? Maybe thinking about going next month for a long weekend……..if so where have you stayed, any recommendations would be welcomed. Ta
The cathedral is worth a visit and the marina is great for billionaire spotting. Other than that, I couldn't say.
Decent place ,Cathedral, Palace, old town , train to Soller worth the trip, Marina and walk on the front .
Was there over 20 years ago. I wanted to see the cathedral. Missus wanted to go to C&A. She then got food poisoning a few hours later and ended up in hospital in Palma, which I would recommend - it was nicer than our hotel.
Nice enough place. Only been to Majorca once and toured around a bit, but remember the nicest places to visit being in the North West mainly, Port de Soller and Valdemossa.
Palma is a great place to go. I stayed down by the Marina and felt a little out of it. Would stay more in the centre the next time. Train to Soller is a must (as well as the tram down to the port). Also recommend the Miro foundation.
Palma or Palma nova R. Some make the mistake of one over the other. ?. Palma nova is ok. Magaluf a short walk.
Too be honest, I wasn't aware of the old town per se but it seems to be the area around the cathedral and is a pretty vibrant area. Anywhere central and you'll be fine. The first time I went I stayed out at Caja Major and it was too far out for me (about 20/25 minute walk to the centre).
Watch out for pick-pockets and the like, especially in public spaces. A guy tried to nick my card wallet while I was waiting to get on a bus. I am security conscious and he didn't manage it. As no actual crime was committed, the local police were not interested, but I got a good mugshot of him and his accomplice when I had boarded the bus. Blow me if the same guy didn't turn up as a contestant on Pointless a few years later. Quite brazen. Even said that he used to live in Palma. No point in taking action, as he had not committed a crime, but watch the public spaces.
JC - Majorca/Palma lovely places - and if you're going for the sea and sand ideal. But if you're wanting to do some sight -seeing I'd consider Barcelona - Sagrada Familia Cathedral - Guell Park - Gaudi Architecture etc - superb Clubs and restaurants.
Yeah, that's a very good point. I'd not be in any rush to go myself either. I do fully understand what their protest is about though. Essentially, Air-BnB is ruining tourist destinations for the locals because they can't buy property. Every owner is looking to make a mint letting it on Air-BnB and prices have gone out of reach.
