There are some very strange selections on that list. I get they want to cover a wide range of styles and eras and that there are going to be bands that don't appeal to my taste but were nevertheless successful (say, Spice Girls) or influential (say, Stone Roses) it does seem weird that there are some very famous and influential bands left out in favour of relatively niche artists like Elbow or populist choices like Girls Aloud or Sugababes.
Right load of tosh on that list "The chairmen of the panel selected their favourite groups" well that answers that. Can't believe something like Sugarbabes makes it but yet The Verve are missing, utter Madness
I chose… 1 - The Beatles (by a mile) 2 - The Lilac Time 3 - Prefab Sprout 4 - Pet Shop Boys 5 - The KLF Imagine my surprise when The Lilac Time, The KLF and Prefab Sprout weren’t on the list! So I went for The Dream Academy, The Beloved and Felt…nope! What kind of poll is this?!? Massive Attack,The Charlatans and Suede then, surely they’re on…no, but Imagination, Stereophonics and M People are. Crazy. So I’ve added New Order, The Cure and Frankie Goes To Hollywood. Should really have picked Pink Floyd or the Stones as my 5th choice, but Frankie won’t get many votes.
Mr Picky here wonders if we’re looking at ‘live’ or ‘studio’. National Album Day suggests ‘studio’. Has to be The Beatles ‘Live’ would be Rolling Stones
The Fab Four. The Stones. Clash The Only Ones pistols Smiths Led Zep Can I be of assistance with anything else..?
Given that John Cale is Welsh, there is an argument for the Velvet Underground. Not a good one, but if Queen qualify despite Freddie being Zanzibarian then why not?
