Palma - Majorca

+1 for Barcelona, but personally, I'd give the Sagrada Familia a miss, I found it ugly and totally underwhelming. The medieval cathedral was much more interesting, as was The Ramblas with all the bars and restaurants.

 

Thanks B -- Agree, the SF isn't the most attractive of buildings - it's been a work in progress for 140 years and will not be completed for at least another decade. (didn't get to the Medieval Cathedral)

I was most impressed with Guell Park and the Ramblas. Night life fantastic,
Stayed in Sitges - 30 minutes by train from Barcelona - amazing beaches - 'artists light' - brilliant atmosphere,

 

Protests in Majorca would hardly bother anyone in Tenerife.

 

We were in our motorhome and stayed at a motorhome park in Colonia de Guell. We took the train into the city (Plaza Espania) and walked about 15 miles round the city, including the Olympic village. We were completely knackered after that.... The view of the city from the Olympic village at sunset was fantastic. We had a fabulous meal in a restaurant on the roof of Arenas de Barcelona (a shopping centre) at Plaza Espania. Also got ripped off in an Irish pub (we deserved it for going into an Irish pub to be fair) on the Ramblas, I only wanted a half but they would only serve pints and the pint and a glass of white Rioja cost 20 Euros.

 

The first time I was there in 1979, there weren't any beaches, they were created for the Olympics.

 

B thanks - I was referring to the beaches at Sitges. (I didn't get as far as any of Barcelona beaches.)

 

They protested in Tenerife first , I think the only place where tourists were troubled was in Barcelona where they were squirting water pistols at people eating on the Ramblas
