Agreed, was thinking that in the first 10 mins, how many teams go to Man Utd with two advanced up front chasing shadows all evening leaving nice spaces in the midfield. Our best players are our midfielders and we have signed loads of them, but we continue with a formation that doesn't help us. Clarke is looking very much a lower league manager to me at this point.
I expected Jalo to start with how he played when coming on at Stevenage and DKD being cup tied and said so on Saturday.. and hoped for him to catch the eye on the big stage.. We are a selling club after all.. But it back fired big time.. he never got a kick and looked like a Lost little lad..
Watters and Jalo upfront. Not even a league two pairing. Im yet to see anything from Jalo to say hes ready for first team. Nit sure his strengths.
I can't believe folk are getting on Jalos back, he did at least have the bravery to touch the ball and try to beat a player which is more than can be said for Watters.
I could see the logic in starting watters he's probably the fastest forward we have so suited the counter.
After the first 15 mins I genuinely thought we had a chance. But as ever we've got a mistake in us & they exposed every single one. All for us blooding our own lads, but on reflection it does seem strange those lads being picked when they don't get a sniff in the league either. I liked it but our left side was getting murdered. I'd also like to put us passing the ball to our keeper on the goal line and pretending we've got Ederson & Stones at the back in the f.cking bin.
Maybe he’ll be as good as stopping goals being scored against us as he is at stopping goals being scored for us?
We just ain’t got any quality players…we’re just a mid table league one club now and can’t see that changing.
The lads a kid when all said and done it's some of the more experienced players who need to take a good look at themselves
far too many passes going astray- you cant give the ball away like we did against a team like m/u -same last saturday- poor passes when attacking
You say about jalo but he was one of the only players who came out of the stevenage game with any credit. Watters has been poor since he came and Cosgrove has had 2 good games in 12 months. You say it asif its a outrage that watters and Cosgrove didn't start upfront but neither have done enough this season or last to be a gaurteed starter, sadly that's where we are at.
Every club do it - despite being nowhere near good enough to do so, certainly against teams much better than them - and it needs to stop! Burnley last season in Prem and this season it will be Southampton. But it happens all the way down into the conference now, its Batshite crazy. There's no way the club were issuing orders to get Jalo and Yoganathan into the team against United. If anything playing them against United actively discouraged clubs taking an interest because they were completely run over. If the club were dishing out orders to get them in shop window, they'd be playing against league 1 teams hell of a lot more, where they might actually look decent. Clubs love stats and analytics these days so its a shocking idea to force Clarke to play them in the cup against such a team. Its more than likely that Yoganathan deserved a start due to his performances in previous Cup games and Jalo did well when coming on against Stevenage, with DKD being cup tied.
I think you’re right. I just find it hard to fathom how Clarke, Hourihane, Devaney & Stead (maybe not Whitehead) were happy to go with Jalo & Yoganathan in that kind of game. I struggle to see what they saw.
