Connell has been poor for a while now. His passing has been aimless, he tends to just hoof the ball out from a defensive midfield position up into nobody, and like a lot of the others, doesn't look particularly fit. Nothing against the guy, but if we're talking about MDG being our standout performer, we've got some serious problems. I like Clarke, I have a good feeling about him. But he also needs to have a bit of a rethink and a reset about how he's approaching this season. Stop messing about with formations and lineups, get the lads fitter and go back to basics. First order of business needs to be getting clean sheets. We're conceding far too many goals. Not just the fact we're conceding regularly, but the manner we're conceding them is worrying. Puts me in mind of the Champ season under Stendel when it appeared that he was wilfully setting the team up to get tanked as a way of putting two fingers up at the board.
Tbf I think yours is the majority view.. I'm wanting to like both.. but just never quite get there. Both in the Herbie Kane Cadden club for me. Just don't seem to hit the heights.. maybe my expectations are too high.
I said right from the start that it would affect his game, as it does for many others and not just football. Marc Roberts would be the better choice for me
Midfield should be a diamond. Slolina. Lofthouse, MDG, Roberts, Cotter. Craig. Phillips, Connell. DKD. Humphry's and Cosgrove.
Slolina is the only one I've had enough of. I just don't think he's a great deal better than anything we've got and I'd rather we play our own guys and let them make mistakes and develop than allowing someone else's player the same opportunity.
O’Keefe. Timid, slow, error strewn, can’t defend. Shouldn’t be near first team after that cup sending off.
But he was nowhere near on his game last season compared to his standards. He strikes me as the type to bark out when necessary and show real leadership, and I think he will eventually nail it. He's had some cracking games this year already, probably 2 better performances already than most of his last seasons. I think we just need time to click. I thought it would have been Roberts when he joined, but my thinking was perhaps he wasnt going to play as much
I’ll say it for the thousandth time….why on earth haven’t we signed a permanent keeper with some experience? Southwood from Cheltenham would’ve been ideal but he chose to sit on Bolton’s bench instead.
