Wasn't that the impression given when we signed him to get his coaching badges and moved up to head coach in three years time
I must say Clarke reminds me of Lee Johnson in the way we set up. However, he talks a better game and sounds like a better man manager.
Well it’s pretty clear from Clarkes interview today that he’s here to coach and not really play unless no other option.
Talks a good game in the presser’s. Unfortunately, the games are played on grass and jury’s out still for me.
Read on here the other day someone calling Clarke 'a lower league manager'.. well I've got news for ya mush, we're a lower league club. Who do you expect we get. ? We don't have one single player that could hold his own in the championship.
We've got one playing at Pompey that was absolutely gash last year, so on that showing, half our team could.
Feel for clarke, but has rightly held his hands so get my respect. Only had 1 transfer window and we didn't come anywhere near accomplishing an ideal squad, need to back him, equally he'd do himself no harm picking the best 11 and giving them 4/5 games. I can understand wholesale changes of your 3-0 down or being overrun like 1st 20 mins of Mansfield game but last Sat was knee jerk. Patience required (as in 2/3 windows)
That’s a huge call given that he’s right at the start of his coaching career. He’d have to make a massive impression this season to be anywhere near being in with a shout.
Wouldn’t surprise me. Not that I’ve anything against Clarke, just that we don’t do patient do we? Fans will turn very quickly. Some were very critical at Stevenage.
I'd be sacking the recruitment team/CEO before removing the manager. Clarke hasn't been given a chance with the signings so far.
I predict Clarke will be sacked at the back end of the season when it’s pretty much confirmed mathematically that we ain’t finishing in the playoffs, then Conor will step forward & be the next Barnsley manager. If my prediction is correct then it’s good for Conor, but leaves us no further forward & a massive backwards step in the sense that theirs still no continuity at the club meaning Conor will have an impossible job with huge expectations from the fan base.
I don’t know how we’re planning on effectively managing this situation but him just playing ‘in emergencies’ isn’t going to work - he can’t not play for 3 months then just expect to start or play any type of significant role effectively. We should be looking to use him for the last 25-30 mins to give us some experience and control the game in the final stages.
