    Anniversary of the day we signed Phil. Back in 1990 Mel Machin signed him for £175k with add ons of 35k if he played for England.
    By the way I haven't made the last bit up.

    Didn't know the details but remember it being at the time a record transfer from a non league club to a league club..

    He left us for Rotherham but his career took off when he signed for Southend United.

    We should have signed him for free with £250k if he ever played for England. Might have got our money's worth that way.

    I always thought that it was £150k .
    I saw him play at the Goldstone Ground the day that Chris Eubank showed off a recently won belt .

    A nondescript 0 - 1 game . All I remember is his big hair Gordon Mcqueen style .
    Could be wrong of course , a long time ago .
