A few nights ago I was listening to Radio 4 Extra at about 11.45pm and there was this so-called comedy which actually had many, many swear words, including the F word, several times.
Now I'm no prude but I was genuinely shocked hearing it. So much so I switched off. I couldn't handle the idea of BBC radio at these depths.
Is this the new radio we have got to get used to? Even daytime/morning radio is sneaking in a few sweary type words.
I have always turned to my radio for comfort and relaxation, now I'm on edge.
I understand it reflects society but we get so much appalling language thrown at us on a daily basis that I can't handle it from my little wireless in the corner.
    Yours, disgusted from Tunbridge Wells.

What was it? Most of the stuff on at that time are just repeats of something that was originally on Radio 4 at 6pm in prior years. I don’t think I’ve heard any risqué stuff on there

I'm sorry I don't know what it was. It had already started. And it very quickly got binned.
    Maybe Wednesday night at 11.45.
    And it was flippin awful.
And no it wasn't a repeat of 6.30pm Radio 4.

The most gratuitous I've seen on TV was the Irish crime drama 'Kin'.
Each episode would have only lasted five minutes if all the eff type words had been edited out.

Have you noticed how "bloody hell" seems to have virtually disappeared from modern use. Even that was considered somewhat risqué when I was a lad. Most uses of the "f" word are totally gratuitous.

I know what the OP s getting at. Gangster stuff on TV fair enough, Gangsters swear so TV s programmes about them reflect that to hit a bit realism. On the other hand comedians: about 1980 the rise of alternative comedy, they thought it was edgy to swear - which back then it might have been. The trouble is there are still some stuck in that rut. Swearing and being generally offensive and crass is equated with being funny when really it isnt, at least not to my ears. Someone like Ricky Gervais is at times offensive but I think he is intelligent with it. Someone like Frankie Boyle is offensive, lacks wit and not funny, to my ears anyway

You've disgusted me many times over the years with the way you talk about girls/women. I find you entirely objectionable.

There's loads of them over the years. He's always on about hitting women. All I had to do to find it was put "slap" and "Mr Badger" into the search facility and I knew something would come up. It's a shame on us all that we've allowed him to continue to post.

So at a quarter to midnight a digital radio station with a listenership at that time of likely no more than a few thousand broadcast a comedy show with some swearing in it?

    Stop the world…

You cant handle the idea of the bbc at these depths? What?

You might not like it, fine. Listen to summat else. The main radio four or whatever. There’s other non-music stations.

I’d suggest you are a bit of a prude; certainly old fashioned and stuck in the past - and as Jay has highlighted, not averse to some good old fashioned misogyny and advocacy of violence.

    Not a good mix.

Series six of Brassic starts next week. I love the show and find it one of the best things on TV. I strongly suggest you don’t watch it.
