Just gone over the bridge ( not a bridge thread),wondering what’s happening with the alleged crossing? Read somewhere the public realm/road crossing would be addressed after the bridge was completed? The issue seems worse now given they have stopped closing the road before and after the games, only a matter of time before there’s an accident. When we get a Birmingham/Huddersfield down it’s going to be carnage (unless they still plan closing the roads for bigger games?).
Project overview We're looking to introduce walking and cycling improvements to the Kendray Street area. The proposals are aimed at improving the provision for walking and cycling. These will take place between the interchange and the Barnsley Metrodome and Oakwell Stadium. The scheme aims to deliver crucial active travel improvements to Kendray Street and Pontefract Road. These are beneath Harborough Hill Road. The aim is to better connect the town centre with Oakwell and the areas around it. The scheme will be funded by the Mayoral Legacy Fund. It is delivered in partnership with the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA). Please see below for more details and plans of the scheme. Its a timeline and tells you how you can have your say on the proposals. Proposals The scheme aims to improve the active travel offering by doing the following: Toucan crossing over Kendray Street, at the foot of the new Market Gate Bridge Footway widening along Kendray Street, up the slip road onto Harborough Hills Road and into Pontefract Road Reclassification of footways to shared use, permitting cycling Signage/wayfinding from Kendray Street to Metrodome and Oakwell Amendments to Southbound exit slip road across junction with Queens Road Revised traffic signal arrangements New access arrangements to bingo hall subject to approval Higher standard of paving and public realm features Project timeline Final funding approval November 2024 Construction start January 2025 Construction end July 2025
From "Two can" meaning bikes and people can cross at the same time..it's wider than normal crossings.
What's wrong with it?, I cross it at least 8 times a week, better than Nudger's bridge of certain death.
Thanks couple of points, interesting taking down to one lane, assuming to make crossing easier, the location of the Toucan crossing is batsh1t mental, nobody will use that ! Who after a few pints on match day is going to turn left straight off the bridge to cross like that ? I’ll tell you who, nobody.
That makes sense then - I wondered why the plastic red & white road barriers were still in place outside the bingo area. Also why no Armco barrier in front of the railway line where the road used to be - normally Network Rail would insist on one on a bend like that.
What's the issue why do they have to close roads they never used to it's been like that for years without all this fuss. FFS sake get a grip is it so difficult to manage to cross a couple of roads without issue. Follow the rules pavement for pedestrians road for vehicles till you need to cross the road then you follow the green cross code and you'll get there safely.
Does anyone remember a comment from one of our recent chairmen/CEO's saying he wanted a link road from the station to the ground? Was that even possible? Does it make it easier now the youth building has been built? I presume it was a short cut to Harborough Hill, under the road, and up Queens Road, and down Queens Ground into the away end.
You crossed on match day when it’s busy, folk have had a drink and it’s hard to see where ir how fast cars are coming?
Wasn't it more that they wanted to spruce up the route from town as a sort of 'road to Oakwell', with signage, BFC-related installations etc? I have a vague recollection of something like that being mentioned anyway..
if only theyd landed the new bridge on the bingo side of the road and then re-routed the road around the bridge
