******* rail system. ****. Absolutely ******* ****. 3 hour journey down - stood up the whole way. Then ******* soaked on the way back to the Station. Then had to catch a bus to Derby because the train is cancelled. Then 2 hours on Derby Station listening to a set of ridiculous train announcements nd board updates that must have been put together by Donald Trump and Frank Spencer. Christ knows what time I get back into ******* Darlo. ******* Absolutely *****. And this happens time and time again. Grateful to Rob - top Reds fan for enduring this nightmare. Still, silver clouds, we won.
What a contrast to my trip on PKP today. A very long distance IC train was no more than a couple of minutes late arriving in Opole and made that up when we got off at Wroclaw for a very efficient bus service to the airport. The train was going on to Gydnia, a long way north up on the Baltic coast and I bet it arrived on time there! For us it was about a 60 mile trip which took around 45 minutes in First Class comfort. 74 zlotys for two single tickets which is roughly £7 each. That trip in the UK would be much MUCH more of course. Oh and one more thing - the first class carriages were the old corridor style, not the open plan, listen to everyone’s loud phone conversations type. The Poles are a very respectful people on the whole. While waiting for our flight I then had the pleasure of following the Reds’ progress at Burton. Long day and glad to be home
You have my sympathy. I can’t remember the last time i has a straightforward rail trip, on time sitting in the seats I reserved and without the carriage being overcrowded. Yesterday - 2 journeys. Both delayed. One rammed, and with announcements that the toilet was blocked and should not be entered. Return journey half an hour late. It’s just embarrassing the state of these rail companies.
The system in this country is obviously sub-standard for most people. Re-nationalising it might help, or it might not.
Legged it to station to get the 5.24 to back to london via Tamworth. No trains due to a problem in the derby area. Uber to Tamworth. Me my son, 3 people we didn't know and Ben killip . Finally got home 10.30
I can, it was the other week, a train journey from Dusseldorf to Aachen. Easy, pleasant, on time and a fair price; infact the conductor told me ( in English), I'd paid too much and I could have got a cheaper ticket. Oh for good old BR, where money went on the rail service, not shareholders and management bonuses.
I was on a packed train from Leeds up to Headingley for the cricket, got off to walk up to the cricket and nearly bumped into Adie Moses!
The one thing that actually stops me and the wife from going anywhere by train is the sheer complexity of the ticket websites, for times and prices. I tried to work out a return journey from Newark to York .... and I gave up.
I’ve been sat in Dewsbury Train Station this afternoon, 3 pints of Vocation Heart &Soul in West Riding Refreshment Rooms
