    On this day in 1911, Tommy Boyle, Captain of the team beaten in the FA Cup Final against Newcastle United in 1910, was transferred to Burnley for a fee of £1,150 – a new club record sale and the first time BFC received a fee greater than £1,000. He played 178 games for the Reds.

    He therefore missed out on winning the trophy with Barnsley in 1912, although he captained Burnley when they won it in 1914.

    He served in the Royal Field Artillery during the First World War and was badly wounded in 1917. Doctors told him he wouldn't play again but he proved them wrong and became the first Burnley captain to lift the League Championship trophy when they won the title in 1920/21.

    After his playing career ended he worked as a Pub landlord but was committed to a psychiatric hospital in 1930. He died in January 1940 and was buried in an unmarked grave in Hoyland. A headstone was erected and dedicated in May 2010 and representatives from Barnsley and Burnley attended the ceremony.

    Maybe we won the FA Cup more than once and won the league title, and it's been reported wrong all these years. Imagine that lol

    He went to Burnley in between us losing against Newcastle and then us winning it in 1912
