Yes of course. But would require football authorities to get some backbone. A club like ours for example cannot really afford to pay players 6 / 8 k a week so we need owners to chip in 3 million quid a year.

 

That doesn't bother me to be honest. It might impact the standard at the very top level, but I think it would help create a more balanced playing field again if some players went chasing the money. As it stands, very few teams who don't spend into the £100m's on players are ever likely to get to the Premier League, I think that would change if more teams are forced to rely on home grown talent to progress. We might even go back to a situation like in the 70s and 80s where the top division was won by 4 or 5 different teams. It's not as though the money is ever going to go away as Sky are too ingrained in football in England to let that happen.

 

No. That doesn't mean I think wages in football are sustainable, they're not they're ridiculous, but I don't believe in limiting how much someone can earn.

No problem in limiting expenditure for clubs. It should not exceed turnover. And that in itself produces a budget for wages. But I wouldn't put a cap on a person's wage in any industry.

 

On the contrary. There's a wage cap in virtually every industry in the world. I can't walk into a job at Company X and negotiate my own terms. I accept the pay structure for the job I'm applying for or have to look elsewhere.
I've no problem with footballers taking whatever idiotic clubs and fans are prepared to pay them but it would be far better for the same clubs and fans and the game itself if the pay was reasonable.

 

They just need to make sure the FFP rules are followed.

 

The problem with salary caps is about international competition between the leagues. If the English leagues had salary caps the best players would move abroad to where they can get what they need. The rise of Saudi League, and alternative markets willing to spend astronomical wages would cause the Premier League to suffer. Whether you like it or not, the Premier League is a great commercial success, there’s no way they’d agree to any level of salary cap.

 

A wage structure isn't a wage cap enforced by a governing body. Should clubs have a wage structure they can afford, of course they should, but that wasn't asked.

 

PLAYERS WOULD GO ELLSEWHERE THEN SKY WOULD COS WE WOULDNT HAVE THE PLAYERS TO MAKE PREM BEST IN WORLD NOT THAT AM BOTHERED LIKE.

 

So be it. Then perhaps football would return to what it is properly about. The fans. Not business. There was a life b4 sky. Let the players fekk off to China and Saudi. Along with the billionaire owners. Pretty sure most european fans would not be in the slightest Interested.
