It happened against us when Rob Kozluk handled against the Blunts at Oakwell a few years back. Ref didn't see it but the linesman put the flag across his chest, ref went over to discuss it and gave the penalty. Not sure but did he also send Kozluk off? Same happened at Coventry early 2000s. There's no excuse, it is literally their job to alert the ref to what they've seen when the ref is not in a position to see for himself. To be fair to yesterday's linesman, he would have had a similar view to me (west end of Ponty near the front) and I wasn't convinced.
From memory wasn’t it the linesman in the other half of the field that gave it? Never seen that happen before or since. Can’t recall it being a red card though
Switched Sky on when I got home from match, studio guest said their shout wasn't a penalty but the foul on Lofthouse 'I've seen them given' Also just before their penalty shout their player fouls ours on the edge of the box.
TBF, I've seen linesmen give penalties on a fair number of occasions. They wave their flag & put it across their chest to indicate a penalty, back int day mindst.
Last night i thought that was a penalty on Lofthouse, the highlights show it wasn't, defender gets in front of him. Good decision Ref.
But the liner on west side was staring straight at it, but to be honest the linesman didn't get much right all night.we must have worst officials in the world, or the most dishonest
I was at the front of the Ponty at the West stand end so he would have had a similar view to me and I wasn't convinced at the time. Seen it a few times since and still can't make my mind up. It's one of those "I've seen 'em given" penalty decisions... He did refuse to put his flag up when the ball looked well out of play during a Stockport attack though.
He should've given them a penalty, he didn't. He had to even it out somehow. It seems even when we are awarded a penalty, it comes with controversial strings attached
Like I said he had a good game on the whole he's human he can't get everything right. We can't do anything about the pitch, the weather, the ref missing a pen. That's out of our control, we can sort the poor performance out though.
There’s wasn’t a penalty in a million years. Marsh pulled out of the tackle and moved his leg back. The Lofthouse challenge was a foul, should have been given, but it’s well short of suggesting the ref is shocking or corrupt - you can see why it wasn’t given. I’d say if it had happened on 77 minutes and not 97 he’d have been more likely to award it - at that stage in the game human nature takes over and he’d have to be 1000% sure to give it so late. Doesn’t make him corrupt. You see it all the time.
You sure they should have had a pen I haven’t watched it back yet but from my view it looked like their guy just flung himself at Marsh looking for it I thought he was lucky not to get booked our Pen was stonewall a trip from a stupid lunge. The one on Lofthouse looked a pen from my view but not seen it again either not as clear cut as the one given but I’d have given it. May change my mind if I can be bothered to fast forward the recoding I made and check it. Certainly not watching the whole game again
My main criticisms of ref’s is their inconsistency. The game where the ref gets everything right has never happened and is highly likely to remain so. Genuine mistakes are exactly that, although poor positioning can contribute to that, but just treat Teams/players the same. I’m fed up of seeing players get away with foul after foul and nothing from the ref, yet a player will get a card for a first offence ( trivial ones not obvious yellows)
Happened last night too. Cotter got taken out late and ended up almost being spun upside down. Just a foul. Then I think Benson got booked for a much less worse challenge.
I thought the one of lofthouse was more of a penalty than the one we got. I’m still not convinced it was a penalty - I think DKD played for it. Appreciate I’m in the minority
Not a red, and he was indeed miles away. Same game Morgan assaulted Hume and got away with it. Andy D'urso
The dkd one was stonewall, there man got none of the ball. Just wish we hadn't sat back for the rest of the game after that
I have only just seen a still of their equaliser and the deflection looks to come off a Stockport man in an offside position.
It would have been given anywhere else on the pitch. But he was never going to give it that late in a match.
