Tbf, we hired flame throwers that took your eyebrows off from 100 yards, and digital boards that the first 10 rows couldn't see over. Fine margins.
I’d be looking at using it to stick the away fans in. be great to have the north stand like another ponty end, named after an Oakwell Hero. the rest of it used to generate income - aka good quality food and drinks , think it takes about 30 years or so to get a return according to Accrington chairman plus improve media facilities
Ford Capri? Luxury! My first car was a 1963 Austin mini van with two rubbish seats at the front and a rusty metal floor behind. There was actually a hole near the back so I had to drive with the windows open to guard against asphyxiation from exhaust fumes. If a couple were sprawled in the back that helped to plug the hole. Bargain for £35!
Under floor ventilation must have been an Austin feature. My Dads first car was an Austin A35 van with holes in the floor First car I was ever in. My first car much more civilised a W reg Vauxhall Chevette no holes where they shouldn’t be. First car I ever travelled at over 100mph in was a 3 litre Ford capri mk1 GT
I was 18 so I didn’t care about niceties like a sealed floor. It just had to get me around Barnsley on my weekends home from camp, and it did for nearly a year. Upgrade due then - another mini but this time a saloon for £60, and they took the van in p/x!
Morris Marina first car, air conditioning was hole in the floor. Gear stick used to come off in my hand. Upgraded to a Ford Capri ,when I got a pay rise to coal face rates . Minds the black eye liner straight off afters to pub worked at that time.
Is modernising the kiosks necessary or would a few extra staff and the kiosks being appropriately stocked for a 90+ min game more appealing to fans.
It's all good a well and good having a shinny new stand to look at for the sake of it, couldn't see more than half a dozen events a year due to lots of competition close by, don't forget we got favourable with the callum Simpson fight due to him being from the area. Just don't see the business case stacking up for a return on investment for the council unless it's getting some serious numbers in, there's then the conversation to be had about safe standing, put it onto a new stand and it kills the ponty end off
Interesting interview with Jon Flatbread in the YP with a fair bit more detail about the plans and the thinking behind them. My IT skills are Conference level but I'm sure someone will post a link in due course.
Well at some point it’s going to be a necessity to replace it, because the whole thing will be unfit for purpose. An ideal, not unreasonable replacement would - Join right up to the Ponty end filling in the gap between the stand. This would be a great place to add a few more seats and a decent sized screen for replays etc Changing rooms so the teams could come out at the middle of the pitch Join up to the Barry Murphy stand and improve press facilities.
Are you my first wife? Our first car was a Morris Marina, which was OK until it started falling apart, including a hole in the floor (believe it or not!) but the gear stick stayed on. My wife and I went off to walk the Pennine Way for our honeymoon, and when we got back we discovered my mum had sold the Marina to a scrap dealer for £27. We then upgraded to a Capri because we liked watching the Professionals on TV.
Remember years ago they where going to re develop Oakwell and build swimming baths , but nothing came about and Metrodome was built , if my memory serves me right
