I see John McAtee scored again tonight for Bolton. If only we could get someone like that. Oh, hang on......
Welp... Been trying to think of a more tedious half of football in over 30 years of watching. Not sure there were any.
He was doing the guest appearance in the fan zone on Saturday before the match, I'm guessing they've got him helping out behind the bar tonight.
Now I know why I was underwhelmed and disappointed when Clarke was announced. I also know why his last team were relegated it's because he doesn't know what the **** he's doing on the evidence of the last 45 minutes and the 90 odd minutes on Saturday.
This I have to say is exceptionally poor. Four centre backs, two right backs, two defensive midfielders, an attacking midfielder and a centre forward. Shoe horned into a 4-4-2. Not bringing in a competent enough left sided player to play left wing back/left wing is absolutely criminal. I’d say we have too many cb’s and not enough cf’s, one too many rb’s - there’s just no balance whatsoever and a distinct lack of quality. Coupled with baffling tactics for the last couple of games and it’s a hard watch. I honestly thought the home game v Bristol Rovers we had the beginnings of a good side with a way of playing that looked promising. It has gone backwards since then, at least at home. The similarities to Collins are noticeable it has to be said.
Benson needs to come on for the 2nd half, someone with a bit of skill on the ball. Should’ve started tonight but our manager has shoe-horned a RB upfront on the left.
This feels like a pre-season friendly. Everyone going through the motions, including the fans who bothered to show up. Many didn't, looking at the gaps in the stands.
Frustrating first half but we've pretty much nullified them though unfortunately we've lacked quality going forward. I was expecting more from them but I think the game is there for the taking if we find a little more composure. Like to see Jalo run at them in the second.
Unbelievably, they looked like they at least knew the rules of football on Saturday. Today i'm not even convinced they know there are goals on a football pitch. I would say it can only get better from here, but this team continues to surprise me on that front.
Also, it’s about time the Ref started dishing out a few yellow cards I’m not used to seeing the Reds yellow-free.
How about a midfield diamond with Craig at the back, Benson and Connell in the middle and DKD behind a front 2 of Humphrys and Jalo. Cotter right back, Gent left back (if he were around), Roberts and Pines in the middle of the defence.
Humphrys and Benson on second half for Connell/Craig and Cosgrove please. Get into Humphrys tell him to attack with the ball and get us a goal.
