How many people regret the sacking of Neil Collins? I'll be the first to raise my hand, I was thrilled when we got rid of him. I genuinely believed the squad had lost faith in him and weren’t playing for him anymore. I thought it was the right decision…. I was wrong. Looking back, and looking at the squad he had, he did a bloody good job. Yes, I didn’t enjoy the football but nor do I currently. So not that you are reading, Neil, but if you are…. I’m sorry. You weren’t the problem, I called for your head on many occasions and looking at it now, I was so wrong. So I apologise. Dunno where we go from here lads, it’s bad init? Had a few beers, sulking big time. Off to Tenerife tomorrow though so o can forget about BFC for the time being… hopefully.
I knew at the time Clarke was the wrong appointment, I remember seeing the local Cheltenham journo’ tweeting in the morning saying Clarke had left them to seek alternate work and I hoped to **** he wasn’t coming to us… that afternoon we’d announced him… His interviews are horrible, he’s rude to the media and he’s a proper Dinosaur of a Manager in terms of his views; pretty certain he’d bring back the Cane if he could… Very much doubt he’s got anyone in that dressing room still fighting for him, what a situation we’re in.. 10 games into this season. Get me another ******* drink….
I thought it was the wrong decision at the time & I felt we were deep in the **** with the amount of talent leaving the club for bugger all in the summer & nothing has changed in my eyes.
Never thought we should've sacked Collins personally, but could kind of understand why some wanted him out. But think it's really clear it was the wrong decision now. Yes recruitment has been woeful so you have to take into account. But the main two complaints against Collins were a lack of a defined style of play and being dull to watch. On both those measures Collins is way ahead of Clarke. He also won some games of football. On a similar note, hope some have come to appreciate the fact that Devante Cole was actually a very decent league one striker after watching his replacements this season.
We weren't patient enough with Collins, but now let's tighten the noose around Clarke with 10 league games! I didn't call for Collins to be sacked, especially before the play offs, the fans who wanted him gone the game before play offs were daft and the board even dafter for doing it (though I understand why with toxicity inside Oakwell). Clarke has a good CV but this job really is a step up for him, so he needs to sort it out relatively quickly others yet more fans will be calling for his head.
Both appointments were wrong, wtf were they thinking but just look at the board... Would you trust their football knowledge to pick a head coach
I think we should get shut of the manager and experiment with a panel of experts from this forum just to see how it works. If it’s successful,it’s the way forward for the future.
In all fairness I wouldn’t expect anyone from this board put a right-back on the left of a front 3… I wouldn’t expect anyone from this board to play a back-line of 4 CB’s either!
I wouldn't play two similar players in Connell and Craig in the same team. I would give Benson a start. I would cut out so many negative sidewards and backwards passes. I'd expect our big money loaned keeper to catch the ball more.
We're now awaiting the return of Watters and regretting sacking Collins.......jeez times truely are that bad.....
It wasn't wrong at all, he was absolutely clueless. Which in no way detracts from the fact that our wonderful board have managed to appoint another coach who is...absolutely clueless. I'm seeing a pattern here.
Regret sacking Collins? No. Never. The timing was wrong yes, but he had to go. He’d done a good job to get the results he had up to a point - but he’d completely lost the plot and couldn’t buy a result; the crowd had completely turned on him, the atmosphere was toxic at games, and the players were treading water waiting for him to go. So no, I don’t regret it at all. The fact the replacement isn’t so far better, potentially worse, doesn’t change that.
I’m sorry but these strikers being crap don’t make Cole a good striker. Don’t forget, his hold up play was WORSE than Cosgrove. He is ok if he is just getting on the end of balls in the box, then, I grant you he is decent. With how we are playing this season, and the chances we are creating, I’ll tell you how many he would have scored so far……..F all. He would not improve us playing as we are.
How many teams appointment a head coach that’s just got a team relegated (and I get that he almost kept them up) but it just doesn’t happen anywhere else to then expect him to lead us to promotion. Our new Director of football appears to have made a hash of his first set of recruiting both Clarke and the strange set of summer transfers. I guess time will tell if it works or not.
No one’s hold up play is worse than Cosgroves. I include my Nan in that and she’s been dead 20 years.
I think the way Collins was sacked was awful but god I’m glad he’s gone. Clarke needs to improve quickly. We are his big break he needs to take it.
