Genuine question because I’ve read posts on here, heard talk in the pub etc about it being a ploy just to boost season ticket sales but I don’t know of, or heard of 1 person that has bought one simply because of the return of Hourihane. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to see a fit Hourihane available for selection because I think he would’ve been invaluable to us. However, whether it was case of he was never really going to feature much for us, or he may even have an injury, I don’t know, but I do think that to say it was simply a ploy to sell STs is stretching it somewhat.

Don’t think it’s a case of being. ‘Sucked in’ we’ve got a new HC with Lower league experience which many folk wanted. As disappointed as many of us are thus far, it’s still early days

Doesn’t matter to me whether we’re good, crap, skint, loaded, managed or manager-less, good recruitment or bad recruitment.

I’ll still buy a season ticket regardless, because I support the club. Nothing else.

We still don’t know that that won’t happen. How have you been hoodwinked though?

Not convinced the sums add up either to support that narrative TBH.
That said I think everyone thought he would play a lot more than he has and that would have been a fair assumption.

Yes, me included, but after watching his last appearance it was clear he was far from first team fitness levels and was surprised he hadn’t and still hasn’t played in any the cup competitions with so many inexperienced young ‘uns playing. This is why I was thinking maybe he has an injury, but the club could simply say so. Like I said earlier, I don’t know,

Not me. Wasn't swayed in the slightest, he's hardly Lionel Messi. Decent player for us 8 years ago but over the last few years has lost his spark. He wasnt very impressive for any team that he played for against us and was subbed off in most of them. I thought the coach aspect was a good idea at the time but I've seen no evidence of what he's actually coached to improve matters up to now.

Bought before but anyone who says his signature wasn’t to appease the fans or in response to poor ST sales, are seriously delusional

Some may not believe it but we have been seriously worse than we are now and people still went to watch

In your opinion. I don’t recall a mass call from fans for his signature. It was largely welcomed but to hint at fans calling for it is wrong

Well your ‘appeasing the fans’ claim would be in context with that

There was quite a few on here calling for us to sign him when he was released by Derby back in May, even more on social media (facebook twitter etc)

Fans always said Conor would be back in some capacity, for years we've said that. Its happened now and now fans are saying its a ploy. Which is it?

Personally I think he was brought in to appease the fans and get support just like I think sacking Collins was to get support. Trouble is if I'm right (and I may be wrong) its bad management to appease people just for short-term popularity. I am now more concerned about what contribution Hourihane actually makes and what proportion of the budget he takes in wages for his contribution (whatever it is). Is he just being lined up as a future manager when Clarke gets the inevitable push? He should definitely not have been touted as player/coach if he doesn't play. Its lying basically.

So the board should force Clarke to play him even if he doesn't want to? The toxicity down at oakwell last season was disgraceful, I can completely understand why the sacked Collins even though I didnt want them to. Theres a reason our home form is ****.
