So glad we agree I was right then. Of course you may be more of an expert than the UN Rappapport.

Was that meant for me? Do you think I'm on booze and drugs?

I've had a drink on a Saturday night.

    I don't take drugs.

I didn't suggest otherwise. I stated that the removal would have a severe impact on some. Next selective quote please?

If only that were the case. The nature of the system means that every slight move to the left usually results in a much larger move to the right afterwards. Ask yourself how much further left we are now than we were in 1997 or 1974 - and so far this has been a considerably shorter jump than either of those.

I wasn't commenting on the triple lock. I was commenting on the winter fuel allowance per se. I suspect you are attempting levity or are simply being patronising. I have no 'documentary evidence' as I further suspect you know but I assume we will have hard evidence of distress in January/February if the winter is harsh. I have no idea if winter will be harsh of course as I've not studied long-term weather patterns in detail. Me just being assumptive and criticising a policy which I believe is poorly thought out. Im drawing a conclusion from it which you may disagree with.

You can't divorce the triple lock from the winter fuel allowance.

    It's what pensioners get paid.

interesting point. Because this is the crux of the argument isn’t it? you say pensioners can afford it if they’re in receipt of £x pension income? Is this not penalising pensioners who have done well in their working life?

this is what should happen - higher rate tax paying pensioners shouldn’t get it and neither should any MP - be that whatever party.

A labour government is always about the public sector - the private sector props up the public sector. The public sector pensions have cost the state £20bn each year for the last 10 years - this bill is picked up by the private sector

this government is knowhere near right wing - Tony Blair’s Labour was centre right , Starmer at best is centre left.

as for private schools , I am privately educated and so are my children - I make sacrifices on a regular basis to give them what I think is best for them - it is an opinion and is subjective - am I a snob ? Not at all (I’d like to think), yet I have been penalised in my pocket

mr Starmer is a man who has benefitted from a private education

But, my children’s private education is of paramount importance to me and irrespective of costs, will finish their education there.

don’t forget Angela rayner used a Margaret thatcher policy to buy her council house - if I felt that strongly towards someone in a negative way, I wouldn’t do it on principle- even worse when you have ambitions to run the country yourself

For clarity - I don’t sit on any side of the fence - I vote for who suits my circumstances- but this government has been the worst I can remember of any new government coming in - there’ll be a few folk in and around barnsley who regretted voting for them

They're distinct. The triple lock is the basis on which the entire pension is paid. The WFA is a one-off top up. So yes, SOME pensioners will get WFA but some will lose out.
Have a read of the following if you're not sure

Seven year old 'research' conducted by a very differently constituted Labour Party - which was not in government at the time. Pensioners have had the benefit of up to another seven years' triple lock uplift since then, so this 'research' could hardly be regarded as reliable evidence in regard to the current situation.

The Labour Party have been asked to carry out a new risk assessment and have refused on the basis that they have already done the research in that report. So if it’s good enough for Keir it’s good enough for us right?
