Panatinaikos have decided to pay the entire amount of George Baldock's three-year contract to his wife to help raise their 1-year-old child. There is also a charity match for the Baldock family in 2025 planned to bring in additional income for the child.
Well done to them indeed, although I'm sure they'll be insured. Puts other clubs to shame where I believe there have been cases of them going to court to avoid paying.
Emiliano Sala - Cardiff City paid the transfer balance of £9.5 million to Nantes F C. Hopefully this money makes it way to the Sala family.
Cardiff City today paid the second and third instalments of the transfer fee for Emiliano Sala, as recently ordered to do by Fifa," a Cardiff statement said. "This is despite there not yet being a judicial decision about FC Nantes' liability for the crash. We continue to work towards those responsible being held accountable.
Yeah it’s a tricky case this. IIRC Cardiff are saying that Nantes along with his agent put him on a plane to the UK that was not licensed for that type of flight and therefore they were more than part culpable for his death. If they had organised a safe and lawful method of transport, he’d still be alive today. The legal standpoint is based around Nantes’ involvement in it. If they weren’t directly involved, then the case and transfer fee dispute wouldn’t have been heard. Essentially, from what I can make out, the most basic analogy is it’s similar to getting a parcel delivered from a specialist courier that the seller arranged. If the courier loses or breaks the parcel, then the sender has to bear the costs, and would claim from the courier. I stand to be corrected on the above, as it’s been a while since I last read about it!
They're suing for £120m saying that they'd have stayed up if he hadn't died. It's a distasteful opportunistic cash grab. He wasn't a misdelivered parcel, he was a person.
