I'd give him a go. Not sure I particularly like his style of play in recent years but he certainly overachieved when in charge of the Republic of Ireland team. Maybe he'd get more out of our squad than recent managers have.
He’s had initial talks 4 ish years ago, but sadly it wasn’t meant to be and never will be, unfortunately.
I don't think it would work out him 'managing' us, because these owners would be scared of him. A bit like Colin as well, they would never get hired. Remember Mick managed our opponents tomorrow, Blackpool, a few years ago and it didn't end well there. Maybe he is past the managing part of the game now.
No thankyou. Don't want him to ruin his legendary status here. And he will do, because he isn't a great football manager anymore. His style would have fans raging after 30 minutes, we don't need more toxicity at oakwell
Ohh it didn't show him in a good way though did it. I'd say he made a right mess of it as manager. And if it didn't ruin his reputation, then it certainly hurt it.
It's completely different now 25 years later. It's all social media. The abuse & toxicity is through the roof, it's a disgrace at times, especially on twitter. Hourihane, though less legendary than Mick, takes a load of stick now for being a coach, we rage and fuss about him despite not knowing anything and make up scenarios as to why he really joined... i.e so board could pull wool over eyes and bla bla bla. Really don't want that for McCarthy.
Top lad Macca. He sorted me out the chance to interview the 80/81 team for my Social Studies course work.
