I've got a ninja air fryer, use it most days. Very rarely turn the oven on now, just for things that don't fit in the ninja, like pizzas.

Sunday roast virtually every Sunday of my life....last few years we've not been too well so go to a local pub for it....the modern change though seems to be how many families seem to allow the kids to sit and eat while playing games on computer devices.

Air Fryers - they are just small fan ovens, just remember that.

If you have a fan oven, it's the same, but bigger. And better.

And takes infinitely longer to get to temperature and to cook the food. Far from better.

It's bigger, but it's not better by any other metric.

We have them occasionally - I'm not that bothered about them, if we go out to a carvery, I'll probably have something else off the menu - Salmon if they have it. The wife or daughter generally do them, but if it's pork I'll do the meat as no one else can get the crackling right.

I do love a bit of stuffing though ;-)

Depends what you mean by ‘infinitely’. Most things (other than a roast) go in the oven for 15-20 minutes ish. That’s not that long an amount of time, even if an air fryer is half that, I’m not going to get upset about an extra 10 minutes in the grand scheme of things.

Air fryers seem like a fad and I wonder if they'll still be around in 5 to 10 years. We've two ovens with different combinations on them. The one we use most gets to 180 degrees in a few minutes, and besides you'd put it on with enough time to be ready when you've finished prep.

I can't see the point in another gadget taking up room when there are existing kitchen appliances that do the job perfectly well already.

When you add on the time it takes the oven to get up to temp it's probably about a third of the time. Plus it's far better at making things crispy and uses less energy.

Both have their merits. Prefer the oven for baking

Samosa chaat in Chez chef tyke tonight

I absolutely love cooking. One of my favourite hobbies, very relaxing and rewarding. Especially with a beer or wine.

Infinitely was in reference to the amount of time it takes to preheat. Air fryer takes about a minute, a trad oven can take 5.

Edit, and that extra 10 mins, if it's every day, soon adds up on the gas/electric bill.

Yh that's a very fair point for cakes etc, but I had included that in things that don't fit (most of my cake tins etc don't fit), although I have used my larger slow cooker for cakes.

I’d highly recommend the Ninja Pro Connect XL

My electric consumption has reduced quite a bit since having a ninja dual XL.

It cooks quicker, takes less preheating, and uses less power.

Oven I still use - for pizzas yeah - but still do my roasts in there, you can do a chicken in the Ninja but when you’re doing a full dinner with spuds and yorkshires for five I need the oven.

And if I tried to make yorkshires without preheating the oven Jamdrop then I’d be making oven baked pancakes every week…

Why a toaster if you have a grill? What’s the point in a microwave?

Who needs a coffee machine if they have a kettle?

I’d say air fryers are here to stay.

I thought the exact same thing as you until I relented and bought a ninja at my wife’s behest.

Honestly, I’d not be without it now. It’s a grand bit of kit.

:D On the very rare occasion I make Yorkies properly I do preheat but as oven’s been on for over an hour already doing the rest of the roast, it doesn’t take that long to bring it up to the higher temp needed.
