Better form tonight than of late at home. Two dreadful defensive mistakes have cost us three points. However, we should've put the game to bed.
I’ve not seen us play for a few games and think we looked marginally improved tonight. we are some way off a good quality , cohesive top six team, but it could happen. Everyone needs to be given a bit of time to gel. Humphrys looks to have the potential to be a very good player for us; he and DKD looked ok together up front. There’s lots of obvious areas of concern but the time to judge will be February, not now.
Came out after dodgy keepers latest bọllock drop, missed our goal... Smith kept a clean sheet for Grimsby tonight
On a positive note there were lots of good individual performances thought Humphrys Gent and Russell were great DKD too, but “you have to fuckin die for three points” we’re just not fighting hard enough off the ball and we’re lapsing in concentration for large periods every week
Yep most of the work needed is mental and team building defending as 11 off the ball for the entire game
Keeper at fault for both goals. Stands and watches the first one roll into the net, then comes and pats the ball to the feet of the attacker leaving him an empty net to chip the ball into. Granted the defending in front of him was abysmal.
He might be a total liability but you can’t blame him for the first, he had no chance of getting anywhere near. It
Defense was OK errors came from loan midfielder to replace yoga and loan keeper who can't catch a ball
We are way off being a top six side because basically we never look like keeping a clean sheet or scoring many goals but on the plus side our attacking play has been much better these last two games and it’s nice to see Humphrey’s getting up to speed.
You can’t accuse him of not being able to catch the ball. He’d have to actually try to do that for us to be able to know.
Who's discounting corners? A ball bobbling around the six yard box and landing at our players feet can hardly be described as 'creativity'. Of course we'll take it, I'm talking about open play.
Quite simply he lacks the balls to be a goalkeeper in English league football. He’s frightened to death of hurting himself. In the air, on the ground, he just doesn’t engage when other players are around. He has to be dropped now. I’m not fussed whether we play Killip, Flavell or Smith. Give someone to other than Slonina. He can make great saves on occasion but he’s cost us more points than he’s won and will continue to do so with flapping at high balls and being scared of contact. You can coach catching and positioning but can’t coach bravery and old fashioned madness of a goalkeeper. He’s never going to have it. I also wasn’t impressed that he had the gaul to argue with Roberts and shrug his shoulders as though it wasn’t his fault and/or didn’t care.
I think tonight from open play we created more chances than them. From ‘creativity’ if you will. If we add our chances not from open play then we created easily enough chances to win. our issue is we gifted them 2 goals. Our issue is defence, not going forward.
Connells picked up an injury now. How far down the list do we have to go before we consider Hourihane a player again?
