Vito Mannone only played two league games for us so I wouldn’t consider that enough to judge. In all fairness he’s still playing now, second choice at Lille I believe. He won Sunderland’s player of the season in 13/14 in the premier league, and then MLS goalkeeper of the season in 2019. He’s made nearly three hundred pro appearances. Gaga Slonina might do the same - but I bloody doubt it.
The slagging off of a young keeper is pathetic, hardest position in any team. Any mistake is held to more scrutiny than any other position. The same keeper kept us in the game at Blackpool and picked Cosgrove out with a pass forward which led to the second goal last night. Generally a much improved team performance last night. Up The Reds.
He looks no better - and in some ways worse then the standard of Goal keeping at the level Wakefield AFC play at - NCEL division one - 10th tier football.
nowt like hanging the lad out to dry - hope he dunt read this forum. Yes I think he needs to work on certain aspects such as maybe catching instead of punching but he's learning and im sure they will work with him on these things. He's saved more than he's given away.
Andy - Is that the fella we had on loan who when facing a penalty stood two foot behind the line and then proceeded to fall over in the general direction of the ball after it had come to a stop in the back of the net?
No, you're right, old mate. However, I still blame him for our failure to win promotion in 1969/70 season, after the injury to Brian Arblaster. Not that I hold a grudge(!)
LOL. I still blame Margaret Thatcher for our relegation from the Premier League. Well I blame her for everything so why not?
We nicknamed him Lurpack due to his butter fingers. Definitely the worst I've seen for us. We'd have been better off sticking an outfield player or Bully from the Supporters Club team in the nets.
He might be a great keeper once he develops. It's probably easier to bulk up and learn to claim crosses than it is to learn shot stopping and reflex saves. The issue is that he's learning on our time. We're committed to playing a keeper who is currently likely worse than the alternatives, and whilst he might develop into a good keeper he'll be long gone from Oakwell at that point.
We've had a lot of good goalkeepers over the years. So when we have a bad one they stand out more. Mannone was probably the worst I've seen for being a flapper. Steele the worst kicker, although great otherwise. Radlinger was poor in general. I'd go Radlinger
I agree I was trying to remember his first name but he made Manone and Radlinger look like Gordon Banks
Well a football fans forum cant overlook games where his mistakes cost us points, He may become a good keeper but currently only his shot stopping is good, his distribution and handling of crosses is worse than many non league keepers. If he was ours I could see a reason for cutting some slack but if he develops into a better keeper we will see no benefit. unless it happens very quickly so of course fans are going to make that point
