Keeper is dodgy but has on occasion saved us this season.

title of thread is disappointing but not surprising considering the poster.

He was never going to try to catch it with opposition players present but what he did was a total bottle job ( again)

He wasn’t ok tonight before the second goal. He’d flapped and punched poorly several times, he flat palm parried a shot that was straight at him at no great pace which he really should have caught; he is like a rabbit in the headlights anytime the ball is anywhere near him if there also happens to be another player in the same post code.

He does have good shot stopping ability, maybe not always consistently - but that doesn’t make up for his consistent failures in other regards.

We'll have to agree to disagree, mate. Isted struggled constantly with balls into the box, yet never got mentioned. He often got beat at near post. He wasn't great at distribution, and now he's second and third choice goalkeeper at Burton - yet a lot of our fans loved him. The reason for that is, in my opinion, because we were a good team and playing well so it covered a lot of his flaws. I think if (when, hopefully:)) we starting playing a little more consistently and keep improving performances like we have the last 2 games, people will change their minds on him. A lot of our fans refuse to have their minds changed though, as we've seen with Cotter, Watters & MDG at points. Can't wait to jump on them for mistakes but will never come out and praise when deserved.

DKD's miss with his free header was almost as bad as Slonina's mistake for me - not even getting that on target was atrocious.

There's no question these high-profile mistakes need cutting out, but personally I really like him bud.

And fair enough. Opinions and all that.

For me he’s costing us too much; and he’s no better than the other keepers we have on the books as an overall package. My main issue with him isn’t mistakes - all players will make them, especially young ones. It’s the consistent failure to take control in his six yard box and just outside when there’s a few players around - whether the ball is in the air or on the ground; he’s frightened of contact, he doesn’t have the ‘balls’ to be a keeper in the English lower leagues. He just doesn’t. I can’t see that improving. You can’t coach him to not be a flake. Keepers tend to have that ‘mental’ element to them, clear everyone and everything out, no fear. He’s full of fear.

Agree about DKDs header, exceptionally poor. Didn’t look like getting a proper header on it at any point, never mind direct it on target.

Punched it low, and straight to Luke Berry, who slammed it back in the goal for good measure.

Poor goalkeeping; if you're going to punch it, go for height and distance.

Imagine calling a young player a bellend. That'll help.

it was a poor punch, but the collision with the defender obviously didn't help.

When I was younger I played in goal for years with different teams and I always wore those NCB orange gloves with gel through them. The ball stuck like glue to them nothing like these fancy ones they wear now.:D:D:D

I hate modern day keepers. This coaching method of getting them to punch or slap it instead of catching the bloody ball does my head in.

I was always taught to catch it and no matter who you take out, you make sure you claim the ball

Slonina has made some howlers and his kicking has been particularly poor. To be fair to recruitment, I don't think anyone could have foreseen the level of mistakes he's made. The kicking must have been known though, it is that consistently bad. I suppose the thought is to work with him to improve it. He's obviously well thought of. I don't really want to get on his back because that's going to make a bad situation worse. He just needs to have more conviction when he comes for the ball. I can understand the frustration with a struggling loanee. I agree the overall keeper situation should be better. Going from Collins and Walton to now is significant.

The alarm bells rung for me on his showreel where there were repeated examples of him palming the ball into really dangerous areas. They were his highlights and he looked shaky. Given the depth video analysis plays now, I'm sure his all round fame could be summarised pretty swiftly and accurately.

He's a fairly decent shot stopper but there are some massive flaws in his game and I don't think they are going to get ironed out swiftly.

Just about to say the same thing, no problem with criticism but calling the young lads bellends isn’t called for.

But whose fault was that? It was the keeper who shouldn't have been there.

The one big attribute that this guy seems to be lacking is bravery, big problem for a keeper.

Has anyone mentioned that Charlton's goalie gifted us a goal last night? By pushing a regulation shot straight out to DKD.

And he flapped a fair bit.

Not much to choose between their goalie and ours.
