I like him and i think he will become a good Goalkeeper in the future At the moment he is making way too many mistakes. He is a brilliant shot stopper. His kicking is slightly improving. But he cant catch a ball to save his life. Whenever he comes out he goes to punch. He has made some unbelievable saves in his time so far and some unbelievable mistakes. For me id give him till Xmas if he carrys on making mistae after mistake and shows no sign of improvement cancel his Loan and get another keeper in January or play Smith/Killip
I never thought I’d see the day when professional goalkeepers couldn’t catch the ball. Perhaps slip fielding in cricket needs reassessment?
Slonina is a good shot stopper but awful in many basic goalkeeping skills ie catching the ball, distribution, commanding the six yard box from corners. He has cost us points this season which has meant loss of possible top two spot. Last night and Northampton being a prime example and IMHO he didn't do very well at preventing Blackpools goal on Saturday either. He looks like he is not willing to attempt to block an advancing forwards about to shoot incase he gets hurt.
A goalie being called a good shot stopper was an insult in times gone by, it was like saying they are no good at every other skills goalkeeping requires.
We're now at the end of October. We've seen enough to know the lad isn't good enough. Pretty much in every position you can get away with mistakes (we do it every game all over the pitch!) but you can't have that in a keeper. The consequences, as we saw yet again last night, are too great.
He’s had good games, but made some serious errors punching ball. I ask this question though, he surely has a goalkeeping coach right, now does the coach encourage him to punch rather than catch ball. Just wondering because surely the coach works on stuff with him?
They are actually taught to punch the ball away when there is the slightest doubt about catching it. Idea being to parry it away into no mans land, however more than often they don't get a clear punch on it and we see the result vs Charlton. What they should be taught in my personal opinion is to have confidence when coming for the ball, make sure your defenders know you are there to avoid confusion and take command of your area. Goalkeepers are a bit of a protected breed in the way the game is reffed now, so if you go for a catch and an opposing player knocks into you during the catch, you are likely to get a free kick awarded anyway. So 100% just have the confidence to catch it.
I’ve seen enough. I don’t see any consistency or progression in his game. We have our own young keeper to blood if we are prepared to let someone play and make errors.
