I don't really love any particular group or singer or have any affinity to them buttt I know all the words to quite a few Taylor swift songs, love the old stuff like steps and s club etc, could probably do karaoke for a few one direction songs too and like you the odd girls aloud. Beyonce I have an irrational dislike for her as a person but can't fault her songs (same as Taylor swift really). Little mix had some bangers and I love a bit of Elton John too.

Oh and just to make it clear it's not just women I have an irrational dislike of, I also quite like a bit of Justin biebers stuff but there's something about him that annoys me.

And yes I used to love glee

I know pretty much nothing about Taylor Swift. I'm aware she's very famous and very popular but I wasn't aware of anything she'd done. A few weeks ago I decided I should address that and listen to a couple of her songs. I fully expected to hate them. I didn't, I thought they were very good, written and performed by someone who is clearly very talented. I thought it would be landfill radio friendly junk but it wasn't, it was a bit indie/leftfield to be fair. I doubt I'll ever get into her, I'm too old and stuck in my ways, but she's clearly very good.

I don't know. I put her name in Spotify and clicked on a couple of tracks that turned out to be slow acoustic numbers that hit me emotionally and sounded considerably different to what I expected them to sound like. They sounded not too dissimilar to stuff I often listen to. Maybe I bumped into a couple of songs that are not representative of her sound. But they were pretty good.

She tends to do a lot of catchy pop numbers which have more chart success but also has an entire catalogue of acoustic stuff and a lot of country too so I'm guessing you got the less mainstream stuff of hers. To the masses, at least over here, it's not what she's known for though. She's far more talented than people realise and very very clever when it comes to self promotion too which she's got to be praised for.

    Boyband stuff from the 90s.

Someone mentioned karaoke earlier, but if you gave me Picture Of You by Boyzone, Got The Feeling by Five and Never Forget by Take That then I'm there.

Oh and McFly are a proper band. Severely underrated songwriters.

I like some of Biebers songs too, actually. About 3. But I used to dislike him too, but after all the revelations coming out in recent months, i have a completely different perspective on him and now I just feel incredibly sad and sorry for him

Yeah she writes decent songs, the issue is that a lot of them are a bit samey.

I'm a bit of an indie pseud but I really like Olivia Rodrigo. And I think Biology by Girls Aloud is one of the best songs of the last 20 years.

Biology is statistically the 114th best song of all time.

I probably need to revisit my thread on that subject actually.

Queen. I have, of course, actually kind of confessed it (I think I got us a very good score on a round in a pub quiz). Now I'm the one who likes Queen.

Also Eminem. I think technically he's really impressive.

You’ve nailed it, there, old mate, by calling McFly a ‘band’ because they actually played instruments. That, to me, is a band.
One Direction, Westlife, Girls Aloud, Spice Girls….clicking their fingers and harmonising to a backing track is, in my eyes, not a band.
And it doesn’t have to be rock or thrash. The Bangles or Cranberries featured lead women who were musicians AND singers.
Digital pop crap isn’t for me. I like bands that contain actual musicians.
Gary Barlow, for example, is a musician, and despite the fact Robbie Williams was a bubbly chap who actually could sing well, the rest of Take That were just dancers.

Why would you not admit to liking Queen or Eminem?

Are they really the type of musicians you'd not really want your mates to know you listen to, bud?
Mine would think id be weird for not listening to them:p

In America she was I believe. She was one of the highest earning women on the planet before she even had much success in the UK. I think love story was her first hit over here and by that point she was making millions a year
