https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/29949/boss-happy-with-striker-progress-and-backs-loanees This was mentioned on Football Heaven last night. The scapegoat comment was brought up. They didn't believe themselves, the wider media or fans were making them both a scapegoat and disagreed with Clarke. I would agree with them. Nobody is making anyone a scapegoat. Sometimes it's best to take someone out of the firing line for a bit.
Got to imagine the only reason for it is that he doesn’t rate any of the other goalkeepers at the club either.
He's made some really bad errors since he's been here cost us a few points but our other keepers don't fill me with much confidence.
He's made some errors, no doubt but he's also made some very good saves. Shot stopping is obviously his strong suit, catching crosses and commanding his box less so. However, I've seen nothing to suggest that playing Kilip would provide us with any kind of benefit, I don't think he's as good at shot stopping and don't feel he's any better at dealing with crosses or commanding his area. The guy on loan at Grimsby might be better but he's not an option at the moment.
I agree he has and we don't have anyone better to come in. We just need to hope his distribution improves and he stops having the rushes of blood he seems to have and improves. I think in the summer they were plenty of goalkeepers avaliable to us I posted on another thread. Isted, Brad Collins, Adam Davies...
He certainly has but so have most keepers. I wouldn't mind giving him time to improve if it had any benefit to Barnsley FC but it doesn't, it only benefits Chelsea and harms us. I wish him all the best in his career but just absolutely detest the way we sacrifice the career of players we have invested so much time and money into via the academy just to give game time to players other teams have lent us to get them fit or ready for themselves. It isnt just the keeper, it's happened all over the pitch in recent years. Clubs should be limited to only being able to loan OUT 5 players in a season. It would cut transfer fees, wages and improve the development of younger players all in one go.
All our eggs are in the Solena basket weather we like it or not because Killip would be worse and Smiths deemed not ready. Craig is in his first full season at this level and as much as I expected a bit more from him he's not been a total disaster. I would urge a bit of patience if we turn on these boy and I understand long term they are not ours in the short term they are going to be important cogs if we are to be successful this season.
We, as fans, have to back them on the pitch regardless. Getting on their backs will go one way. Interesting watching Welcome To Wrexham with Christian Dibble talking about it. He turned it round as well - but stated having 5k of home fans booing him dented his confidence massively. We’d all be the same at work as well if it was us.
I totally agree difference with us when we have a off day and we all have them we don't have the 5k screaming at us plus the countless morons on social media . It's easy to back people when it's all going well maybe sticking with them now will hopefully pay off in the longer term.
Its a fair point about the replacement keeper Killip, maybe being the same, or certainly no better (than Slonina). But in fairness how do we know this, Killip is another player who hasn't had a long run of first team games. And there's the one we loaned to Grimsby, and he helped them win away at the Lg Two leaders, on his debut.
He is a keeper with a fatal flaw in his game a flaw which opposition teams will have seen and will target even more. He simply does not know how to handle crosses does not command his area and avoids physical contact with opposition players he may have got away with playing like that in Chelsea reserves and the MLS he won't get away with it in L1 in England and will continue to be a liability until he changes the way he plays or is dropped and sent back to Chelsea
The problem been you say send him back to Chelsea I'm no expert but that would be January at the earliest. We could just drop him but Killip is no upgrade in the short term at least he's the our best option.
You would hope the coaches would recognise this and then tailor training sessions to improve it (crosses that is)
The signing of Smith doesn't make sense, if we somehow get promoted out of this division then does he then suddenly become Championship quality?...... Wouldn't a season at League 1 level have been beneficial?....... If he isn't even at League 1 level it seems mental to suggest that he will be our future number 1, what does that say about our goalkeepers in the academy. The goalkeeper situation is just one of the many f**k ups this season by the Sporting Director/Board. They are still living in cloud cuckoo land, deluded.
Just don’t understand why we haven’t signed an experienced keeper on a long term contract. They could’ve been building a lasting understanding with the defence to improve us where we’re weakest. Instead we take a punt on a kid no different to the one we’ve signed from Walsall. I just don’t get it…..
Just one of many very strange decisions. I wouldn't mind if I could see some sort of accountability form the board but there is none.
