Me too , still got my scrapbook for that season . My first game. , home to Lincoln City won 2 - 1 . October 1967 . Oh fk I wished I hadn't posted that , 57 years ago . Happier days.
As a 10 year old lad in 1975, and having been bit by the bug, so to speak. That 67/68 team, along with the 54/55 one, we're very much revered by me. Lol Chappell in particular caught my imagination. Mick Butler was the mutts' nuts! Especially as he was a Wuzbrer lad. Was wounded when Huddersfield took him! We got John Saunders in return and, in fairness, he did a sterling job in our promotion season later....... Now; as a 14 year old, in my opinion we more than matched that team. Made me glow with pride! Getting misty eyed here... best shut up!
Mine was the year before '66! Started going after they signed Johny Evans and Barry Thomas! Not suprisingly for then there is very little change in the team.
Peter Graham is the sub. - didn’t need eight in those days. Unbeaten at home all season. Winnie was top scorer. First full season for me also, following a solitary FA Cup appearance the previous season.
This was mine, although David Booth was the left back. Don't blame me for someone else not being able to spell 'Barry'.
65/66. First match. 66/67 first season I saw us every game at home. If I recollect correctly Spud was not the regular right back till around 67. At the age of 27. I may be out a little but think Bob Parker played in that position most games during that period.
My first Barnsley team was . Ray Wood Bob Parker Winstanley Howard Brookes Earnshaw Bettney Hewitt Hamstead Thomas Evans.
I saw all the games in the cup run in 1963/4, The occasional games in the next 2 seasons, in cluding the last game of 1965/6 season when we beat Southport 4-0 with c. 1600 in the ground to witness it. I missed only 1 home game in 1966/7 (I had to attend a wedding & missed our first home win against Luton). I been hooked everywhere since for better or worse. I have the colour version of the 1958/9 promotion winning team.
