Three players who have all had a rough time at Barnsley and we’ve all given them some stick at some point or another. Great to see them all taking their chance yesterday and deserve starts again against Rotherham. Fair play to Clarke as well for getting the best out of them.
Opinions I’ve always stood by. Watters was decent in his loan spell, Russell is a decent player but for some reason tends to perform better away from home than at home leading to lots of the fan base thinking he’s worse than he is. Killip wasn’t actually that bad when he had a run of games last season when Roberts was injured.
Obviously we can skip the Pizza fizzy pee in a plant pot game against Doncaster. The Port Vale and especially the Rotherham games, are what counts now. How many of us are thinking again at the moment, that the Fa cup game isn't the main priority, its the League that counts.
Never really understood the stick Killip gets. I'm assuming just because of where he came from but he was always intended to be second choice keeper. In saying that, he only had 1 shot to save, which he should have & did. Hes still definitely the best distributor of the ball though, including from last season with Roberts. But he shouldn't be dropped because he did everything he needed to do. Its up to Slonina now to work his way back in
Killip isn’t good enough to play regularly at League 1 level. That’s not me targeting him. He does his best when called upon and no one can ask more. But effort needs to be matched with ability and Ben’s level is a bit below the one we are playing at. Watters is a good goal scorer his record shows that and Russell if he matches his work rate to his ability will be a force at L1 level. On song Russell is an absolute joy to watch as a turn of the shoulder creates his space and time.
