The guy commentating on Arsenal v Liverpool now does my head in. Just shouts on the offchance something might happen. “And onto Salah ….. it’s MO SALAH!!” Meanwhile Salah scuffs it. Giddings on Radio Sheffield does the same thing. Except it’s worse because you can’t see the action for yourself. So then you get “WATTERS!” with no explanation for a few seconds of where the ball is. So annoying.
I will always maintain that Martin Tyler screeching "Aguero" is nowhere near an iconic moment. Compare it with "Here comes Hurst, some people are on the pitch, they think it's all over... It is now" or "Now then Clint Marcelle, goes for the glory... And gets it!".
Hadn't noticed it until you posted about it Now can't help but notice how often it happens with other players names too Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhh
You may be right - but he’s responsible for a series of copycat shouters. Wolstenhome’s was far more descriptive, and unique.
In relation to this game (commentary mentioned) this VAR decision is taking far too long. Clearly Van Dijk is playing them all on.
Daniel Mann is the best of the modern bunch, for me. Really good bloke as well. He shares the EFL games with Gary Weaver (who I don’t rate so much, he’s too scripted for me). Mann did the famous Hammill at Wembley comms if you don’t know who I mean. I used to like Rob Hawthorne back in the day. He used to cover the EFL back when we were good late 90’s. None of them get anywhere near the great Brian Moore, John Motson or Barry Davies though.
Ref has just booked Reya for wasting time from a goal kick. What are the chances of a second booking if he does it again?
Watching the El Classico last night and there were way less stoppages, and the offside decisions were much quicker. Hate VAR, hate having referees in the commentary box too!
Motson used to do my head in at times, he would try to convince you only him had seen certain incidents when it was clear for all to see.
In the old days commentary was just that, commentary, with the odd bit of spontaneous excitement thrown in from Messrs Motson and Davies. "Look at his face, just look at his face..." etc Then came the realisation that the 'spontaneous excitement' was what the punters wanted, e.g., Jonathan Pearce, and commentators became almost scripted, like out of work actors, feigning the excitement that their predecessors I'm sure didn't.
It feels like they’re trying to do the commentary for the social media clips later. It sounds good when the player actually scores but when he doesn’t it’s irritating. It should be reserved for the players where you just know they will finish like Salah, Kane and Haaland
Coleman was really underrated. However he was tainted for me when he observed that 'Asa Hartford is a whole-hearted player' when Asa Hartford I believe had been diagnosed with a hole in his heart.
Did he do that purposefully though? At a wake I once said to someone who I didnt see round a corner 'oh god you scared me to death' , thankfully they didn't click on but I certainly did!
