Great selection. He hasn’t played a fifty over game in over a year but at least we potentially get a well seasoned opening partnership… Surprised they haven’t tried to tempt Phil Mustard out of retirement.
We’ve also selected a leg spinner who’s never played a fifty over game. Presumably to be more considered for the T20 games.
Thought it was a squad for the whole white ball tour - if not then the selection of Chohan is even more bizarre
squads were chosen about a month ago and Pepper was only in the ODI team. Chohan ( I knew he sounded familiar being at Yorks ) was selected for both formats but surely they’ve merged squad selections now as you say.
Chohan was excellent in the Vitality Blast. Maybe we will see some of him next season in the County Championship.
Anybody watching ? We’ve a good bowling attack but a relatively inexperienced set of batters but we’ll do it
Can see we have massive BBS interest in watching our fringe players One plus is if the rain doesn't stop we don't lose.
It was a poor effort in that only Curran and Livingstone contributed. On a slightly different topic, I see Foakes hasn’t been offered a central contract. He did nowt wrong batting and is still one of best stumpers in world cricket but he’s replaced by Smith. Odd decision at the time but jeez it’s worked out ! Shan is leaving Yorks methinks, so captaincy will be a good talking point
Our selectors seem to have lost the plot of late across the board. We seem to have discarded experience and a good track record for wholesale changes. Im all for blooding new, younger talent but it seems we dont have a plan for transition and just go for a throw everyone in approach. Are Livingstone and Pope captain material?
We dont look very good do we. This selection process of potential to play for England instead of proven credentials at county level is odd. Wholesale changes and im not sure what selectors expect. Watch them go and knock this off now ive said that instead of the swing and collapse.
It's a tough one. It started with Central Contracts under Fletcher around the turn of the century. Players like Vaughan, Trescothick and Flintoff were fast tracked through the system as Fletcher thought he saw something in then - which was proven as correct. He said that even though there were other players with better records and more experience, he wanted them instead. Obviously it's probably gone too far the other way now.
