But he hardly got any game time for York I thought that was the main reason we recalled him? We then played him in a fixture against a side in the 7th tier of English football.

He played in every game for them. 3 starts & 5 times off the bench.

It was a short term loan. I imagine they needed another body in the building as they were short due to injuries.

We were happy to loan him out for a month as we had a full complement of strikers & he wasn’t making our match day squad.

We then recalled him as we had a couple of injuries & he went straight into our side at Horsham.

There’s a big difference between short term loans & season long / half a season long loans.

With a season long loan you’re bringing someone in to be a big part of the squad for the season. With a short term, normally a month it tends to just be as a cover option.

I doubt anyone at York or Barnsley were expecting him to be starting every game during a short term loan. York were hardly ringing Barnsley up in October saying we want to take Aiden Marsh on a months loan & make him our main forward.

It did its job. They got an extra body in & he got more minutes than he would’ve done staying at Barnsley during that period.

He only featured in 7 games for York playing a total of 222 minutes which is about 3 and a half games in the national league too.

I'm not saying it was a failed loan spell I don't know but he hardly made much of a impact, has he progressed in your opinion over the last few seasons? In your own words we had better strikers and he couldn't get a game here so imo we should have been trying to get him a long term loan.

This season we seem to get a thread a week about jalo but Marsh is a couple year older played more minutes this season than jalo and hasn't made a impact. I think we should be trying to get them both loans out so they can start a run of games and see where there at.

No he didnt. On two occasions he didnt get on. I mean if we're just making stuff up then you might as well also say he scored 800 goals.

I misread your post. I thought you’d said he came on 5 times not that he was on the bench 5 times. I just remember him starting a couple & coming on a couple & seeing him play well in a game I watched him play in on TNT.

My whole point is a short term loan gets someone more minutes than they’re getting with us. Whether it’s 100, 200, 300 or 400 minutes it’s of far more benefit to him playing men’s football than one or two under 23’s games during the same period.

In the next month or two we might well see more of our youngsters getting short term loans to get them a bit of experience now we’re out of the Bristol Motors cup.

Obviously it’d be great if he’s fit enough to start every game & score a bagful but I doubt anyone at York, Barnsley or Aiden himself expected that when he’d not been playing football regularly.

I think one thing we can all agree on is that it’s ridiculous that we’ve never been organised enough to have got signings in early enough for him to have a proper loan spell where he gets a pre-season with his new team mates.

No I think he’s been handled pretty poorly. I think we’ve had a long history of leaving our business to late in transfer windows meaning that youngsters can’t go out on loan as we need them for cover & then the only option to them is an emergency loan to non-league where they’re often thrown straight in with no time to train or get to know their team mates. This used to wind me up going right back to the days of Danny Rose & Jordan Clark.

I don’t particularly mind Jalo being kept around. He’s still only 18 & should be used as an option off the bench when chasing games in my opinion.

I don’t think the two are comparable because Marsh is clearly someone that no one expects much from. We let his contract run down & he’s probably on the bare minimum for a professional player of his age.

Jalo’s probably on three times the wage given the hype around him & the length of contract we have given him.

The lads 21 now under Duff and even last season he was and still is miles off been a regular in league one he should have been loaned out to national league or lower and built it up on a long term loan. But maybe we tried off loading him I don't know.

Thing with jalo is he's 18 now bringing him on for 10 minutes is no good for anyone. And won't help his development imo.

You honestly think Marsh is on 3x more than jalo? Marsh has played more minutes this season than jalo he's two years older. Can't imagine neither are on much but they both need competitive minutes to progress especially Marsh at 21.

I honestly reckon Jalo will be on wages in the region of 4-5k a week like what I’m presuming Cosgrove & Watters are on.

I think his agent had him in the shop window with all the transfer talk & he also plays in the Portuguese underage categories. I could be wrong but my belief is they really planned to step him up this season & it’s injuries that’s held him back.

I think they really see something in him & he seems to be in every squad when fit.

With Marsh he was probably likely to leave on a free but would have to drop a couple of divisions & we were happy to keep him around on a cheap contract in the knowledge that any new signings would either miss the start of the season or need games to get up to speed so it made sense for all parties to give him another year.

I'd be shocked if he was on anywhere near that, we can't afford to pay a 18 year old who are just potential 5k a week. At a guess I'd say similar to Marsh. If money was his motivation for signing a new deal he could have moved to one of the apparently interested clubs who could pay more than us to u23s players. Didn't his dad sit down with Bobby hassell and his reason for staying was he didn't want to go and play u23s football and wanted to break into the 1st team?

I think his best move would be to go on loan and be a regular starter somewhere instead of getting 10 or 15 minutes when defending a lead or chasing one. Or he could end up like Marsh not playing much competitive football and not really progressing his career.
