Are you sure there'll be an election in 2028? Someone doesn't seem to think so. “I said to the Christians in the room … you have to vote on Nov. 5. After that, you don’t have to worry about voting anymore — I don’t care — because we’re going to fix up, the country will be fixed and we won’t even need your vote anymore.”
Its very easy to imagine it getting worse. For all the ways America have enabled and stood by Israel, they have been trying to create a dialogue based on a two state solution and de-escalate possible conflict with Iran. Netanyahu's hope was a Trump win, same as Putin. Given Trumps previous actions against Iran and enflaming tensions by moving Embassy and capital recognition to Jerusalem, it's easier to see that region descend into full blown war.
Sorry. Agree. It's hard to see how genocide, ethnic cleansing and forced starvation of a people can get any worse. The Israelis will find a way no doubt.
Trump wanted Israel to finish the job. He has also talked about how Gaza would be a good place for luxury waterfront apartments. I could be wrong, but I doubt that doesn't mean for the Palestinians who live there.
Why do people think that Trump will pass on the presidency in 2 years? The only way he gives up is if he's dead. There's no way in the world he's giving up the power he craves.
If America says jump Isreal say how high. They’re completely dependant on America’s support. You only have to listen to Bill Clinton’s comments a few days ago to know that the Democrats have no interest in holding Isreal back. I detest Trump & I think it’s likely that Putin would’ve invaded Ukraine if he was in power but I also get how peoples psychology works. What we do know is that Biden has been a disaster when it comes to keeping peace so it’s understandable that some people rightly or wrongly want someone back in power who hasn’t led the country through a period where two major wars started & their costs of living shot through the roof.
I agree. I don’t think it gets any better. I just don’t think it gets any worse. They’re being ethnically cleansed already. Trump getting into power isn’t going to make that any worse.
From The Guardian... It is far from clear who would lead Middle East policy in a new Trump administration, but in the pool around the president-elect are notable supporters of the settler movement, such as his son-in-law Jared Kushner (who has talked of real estate potential of ‘waterfront property’ in Gaza) and former ambassador to Israel David Friedman, whose application for a new job in the incoming administration took the form of a book extolling Israel’s divinely inspired right to seize the West Bank.
The democrats made the same mistakes that Labour are currently making. The political and economic system doesn’t work for people anymore. People want change. Instead again like Labour it’s just more of the same and the far right exploit this. The same will happen in the Uk at the next election where Farage / Tories unite on a right populist ticket and criticise establishment Labour
Actually thinking about it, the idea of America becoming a dictatorship is ridiculous. As ridiculous as a convicted criminal becoming president.
It's been evident that Netanyahu has been very much acting independently of US advice since Hamas attacked. Several times the US were stating they had brokered a deal only for Netanyahu to come out with even stauncher rhetoric. Trump may think he can influence them more, but given he did a uturn on previous dialogue with Iran and his actions re Jerusalem, I don't perceive things getting better or even just staying the same. You only have to see the glee in Netanyahu's congratulations message to understand he feels he's gained an ally.
Trump is 78. He is overweight, does little exercise except swing a golf bat and lives on Maccies and diet coke. He is also showing signs of dementia in his public appearances. Vance taking over after January 2027 would allow Vance to be President for the remainder of that term, then stand for election twice potentially giving him 10 years in power. Under Section 4 of the 25th Amendment, if Vance (as VP) and a majority of Cabinet Members declare Trump unfit to continue, he can be removed from office. If Trump dies - or is incapacitated - before then, then Vance can only serve the remainder of this term and one more term.
I think the democrats even had Jonathan Ashworth (who lost a seat with a huge majority in Leicester) fly out there to advise them on how Labour won. They genuinely think they came up with some kind of master plan to defeat the Tories & weren’t incredibly lucky. I think they’re sleepwalking into the exact scenario you describe.
Jack Smith will likely be fired in January and the federal charges dropped. Trump cannot do anything directly about the State convictions (In NY or Georgia) or the civil cases. It is very unlikely, but he could be sworn in from a prison cell.
