So Clarkson has been on the farmers march shouting his big mouth off against the inheritance tax changes, no doubt being lauded by the farmers. It's a pity the stupid pillocks don't realise that it's because of rich greedy selfish ******** like Clarkson buying up farms and farmland pushing up the price of land in the process while trying to evade paying their fair share of tax that the government have made the changes.
Couldn’t be far from the truth if you tried. Don’t let your Clarkson agenda cloud your judgement like….
"I’ve always seen my farm as many things: a place of great beauty, a fun business and, if I’m honest, a good way of passing on wealth to my children without the taxman getting involved." - Jeremy Clarkson, January 31 2021
Nothing wrong with the principle of people paying inheritance tax like (almost like) everybody else but some farmers are struggling and earn very little in produce because their terms tend to be dictated to by big supermarkets, squeezing profits. Also, the new rules, I believe dont apply in the same way to the estates of the landed gentry - I read an article about it somewhere. I agree with people paying like everyone else but there should be some incentivisation there as well and there doesn't appear to be any
Farmers. Where do we begin with farmers. For years they coined it in from the EU in subsidies for leaving their land fallow - literally money for nothing. Then they turned and bit the hand that fed them by campaigning for Brexit. Now they are whingeing that they might have to pay some tax (on land valued above £3M by the way). I think the only thing they deserve some sympathy over is the fact that supermarkets have screwed their prices down. Otherwise, nothing, nada, zilch they've reaped what they sowed (metaphorically like). The money that the government will get from this tax won't recoup a fraction of what we've lost from Brexit.
Seriously, then mate. Can you explain the situation for a pudding like me? There is wide variation in estimates of number of families affected and amounts of tax payable. I dislike the idea of land grabbing being a tax fiddle so in principle support this. However, is there a realistic threat to UK farming and food security and if so, why?
There's no threat to food supply. If small farms fail then the gap is filled with conglomerates. It's the same as corner shops. If they're not viable, then the big boys move in.
The voting public has to be presumed to have voted for improvement to the public services in July. Every single measure Rachel Reeves has set down has been opposed by narrow self-interest groups. They never suggest where they think the money should come from. Farmers are not poor, and in a true 'handing down' situation, the potentially-exempt transfer provisions are there to help, as well as the existing exemptions. Both they, and the bleating supermarket combos protesting about NI increases should be told where to go - in my opinion. The less well-off have born enough of the burden since the financial crash. It's well time for businesses and the better-off to bear their fair share of the load.
Clarkson is the prime example of someone with no grace manners or patriotism. He states he bought a farm to deliberately evade tax. Of course this meant the Government would review the rules. If the farmers are angry at anyone it should be Clarkson. If I were Labour I’d call it the Clarkson Tax.
Junior Doctors fighting for a payrise? BOOOOOOOO, CRUSH THE UNIONS. Farmers with over a million pounds in assets? LET ME LICK THOSE BOOTS.
Didn't see anyone marching on parliament when the tories with support of the lib dems started hammering those at the bottom with the spiteful austerity. Every time those much further up the food chain ( pun intended)and far more capable of contributing are asked to take a hit they start bleating like the sheep they tend.
He's sticking up for the industry he is part of. If farming died he'd still be a millionaire, so it's admirable he has used his fame to draw extra eyes to the thousands of farmers who would love everything if the industry collapses.
And just for good measure, Bad Enoch has said that the conservatives would overturn the inheritance tax and also VAT on private school fees if they win the next election. Not sure those are the vote winners the tories think the are..
Give over. He's courting publicity for J.Clarkson plc. They can never have enough. He should **** right off.
